Good job on the troubleshooting you've done up to this point!
Use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 and test the red wire in the wiring harness that feeds the brake controller. You should see signal on that wire when the brake pedal is pressed. If you don't see signal on that circuit, your CHMSL fuse might be blown. This fuse is located in the fuse panel on the driver's side edge of the dashboard that sits up against the driver's side door when its closed. Because of the rather hidden location of that fuse box, many folks don't realize it's there. Replace fuse as needed. If the fuse checks out, or if you ARE getting power on the red wire with the brake pedal, there's something internally wrong with the brake controller and it should be replaced.
The part # TK63VR is an excellent entry-level priced brake controller. It features a full digital display, so you'll always know the condition of your trailer braking system. I've linked you to a product demonstration video featuring the Tekonsha I Command Brake Controller.
I've also linked to our brake controller troubleshooting article, which I hope you'll find handy.
