I called Curt on the Curt Gooseneck Flat Plate, # C65500, and they said that the plate can be installed to the frame rails with a minimum of six 1/2 inch Grade 5 mounting bolts, but that would not allow the plate to meet the 30,000 lbs. GTW rating.

To be able to meet the 30,000 lbs. GTW rating you will have to install the Curt flat plate with the Curt Universal Gooseneck Ball Rail Kit, # C61502. This kit will install under the bed to the frame rails and give the extra reinforcement that is needed to maintain the 30,000 lbs. rating. The kit will come with all of the Grade 5 mounting hardware to mount the rails to the frame. You will still need to get six 1/2 inch Grade 5 bolts to attach the flat plate to the rails. See picture to the right to see how it bolts together.

You will also want to make sure you do not exceed the towing capacity of the vehicle that the gooseneck ball rail kit will be installed on.

I am sending a link to the installation instructions on the Curt install kit.
