Hard to Release Undermount Trailer Coupler from Hitch Ball
Question:
My trailer is equipped with an undermount hitch. I have no problem mounting the trailer to the pickup truck. I have a lot of problems trying to detach the trailer from the truck. The coupler will not release from the ball. I jump up and down on the truck trying to break away. What am I doing wrong?

I don't think you are doing anything wrong apart from jumping on the truck and even that isn't wrong it's just more fun to jump on a trampoline or in puddles. There are several reasons why the coupler could be having a hard time releasing from the ball.
First, if there is tension on the ball from the truck/trailer being on uneven ground then that could be the problem. Pulling slightly forward or rearward to release the tension may be all you need to do.
You also might be able use the jack on the trailer to overcome the bound-up ball.
The coupler latch could be damaged or in need of maintenance. Check to see how well it releases without the ball while observing the moving parts from any angle that you can. It could just be in need of cleaning and lubrication or you might notice if something is bent or broken.
And last, the latch style on coupler # CA-5335-B is not always the easiest to use. You may need to physically hold it open to the maximum amount the latch will let you in order to make sure it clears the ball.
You can also lubricate the ball with ball grease such as # 58117 to reduce friction and help the ball and coupler slide off of each other easier.
