Question:

I have a pair of Jeep tail lights that i want to put on my utility trailer however the reverse light has me stumped. What wire harness would I need to make these function with my Jeep wire harness?

If your taillights are the same as the Jeep Style, Universal Trailer Stop, Turn, and Tail Light with Back Up and License Plate Lights, # ST60RB, you have referenced there are three wires. The red wire is for the running light function, the green wire is for stop and turn functions, and the black wire is for the reverse light function. The light grounds through the mounting studs.

What you will need to do is wire the trailer with a Wishbone 5-Way Trailer Harness, # A40W5B. This harness includes two running light wires, one bundled for each of the turn signal and brake wires, to make wiring the trailer easier. The blue wire will need to be split (two wires spliced in) at its end with one wire running to the left taillight and another running to the other taillight for the reverse lights. With this harness and the lights installed, you just have to add a 5-Way to the tow vehicle.

You can use Adapter 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter, # 20036. One end plugs into an existing 4-Way. There is additional wire that you simply connect to the vehicles reverse light circuit. The other end has a 5-Way compatible with the trailer side 5-Way mentioned above. I have included a video showing the installation of this harness below. Now, with everything installed, when you put the tow vehicle in reverse, the reverse lights on the trailer will come on.
