Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2016 Toyota Corolla

Question:

I am planning on moving ~800 lb of boxes over 1400 miles during 3-4 days trip. I dont expect hills. I have a toyota corolla 2016. The owners manual states: Toyota does not recommend towing a trailer with your vehicle. Toyota also does not recommend the installation of a tow hitch or the use of a tow hitch carrier for a wheelchair, scooter, bicycle, etc. Your vehicle is not designed for trailer towing or for the use of tow hitch mounted carriers. However, when i went to the Toyota dealership, they said it is OK to install a tow hitch and to connect Uhaul cargo trailer 4x8. I was wondering which is accurate and if anyone has towed a trailer on a corolla 2016. if so, what is the best recommended set up

When it comes to whether or not a vehicle can tow a trailer you have to follow either what the owners manual states or what Toyota says. In your case you have the owners manual saying one thing and a Toyota dealer saying another. You might try contacting another dealer, but if they told you that your vehicle is okay to tow then they are saying the warranty of your vehicle would still be good through them if you were to tow a trailer and have any issues in the future.

The Curt Hitch part # C11265 is a confirmed fit for your 2016 Corolla and would be a great option for you. I attached an install video for you to check out as well.

If the trailer you plan to tow has a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball coupler you would want the part # C45521 for a ball mount and then part # A-80 for a hitch ball. Or for a 2 inch ball you would want the part # A-82.

For trailer wiring you would then want the part # 118405.
