Platform Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2010 Jeep Wrangler to Clear Rear Spare

Question:

I have a 2010 Jeep Wrangler JK. I currently use a Quadratec hanging bike rack/Class II hitch. I am considering switching to a platform type rack. I have been looking at the Thule TH69TX. My JK has a 33x12.50 spare tire that measures 12inch from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outside of the tire. The bottom of the tire is 6inch from the center of the hitch. I would really like to avoid a hitch extension if possible but if not, do extensions come with threaded anti rattle pins like the racks do? I wouldn't want wobble with an extension. If this rack would work given my dimensions, how long of an extension would work without being too long? Thanks.

The Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack for 4 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # TH69TX would not fit on your 2010 Jeep Wrangler, it would clear the spare tire because it has a distance of only 7 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest bike rack.

Instead, I have a couple of recommendations for you:

If you prefer a frame mounted rack, you could go with the Saris Freedom Bike Rack for 4 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount - Tilting # SA4414B. The # SA4414B has a 60 pound per bike capacity for the first 2 bikes and 35 pounds for the other two bikes and can accommodate wheels up to 3" wide. The closest part of the # SA4414B is 13-1/2", so you could use this rack, but not in the folded position.

If you prefer a wheel mounted rack, you could go with the Yakima HoldUp EVO Bike Rack for 4 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # Y02479-2. The closest part of the # Y02479-2 is 13-1/2", so you could use this rack, but not in the folded position. The # Y02479-2 has a 50 pound per bike capacity and can accommodate wheels up to 4.81" wide. However, if your bike has fenders, you would want to go with a frame-mounted rack because this rack could interfere with your fenders.

I attached a review video of these two racks for you to check out as well.
