Trailer Hitch for 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport to Open Rear Hatch with Tilting Bike Rack

Question:

Hi For 2015 range rover sport, how far beyond fender does to pin hole of the hitch protrude? I need clearance for a hitch bike rack so that I can open the rear hatch door.

Take a look at the picture I have included showing the location of a hitch installed on a 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. We don't have an exact measurement but you can see the face of the receiver is about flush with the rear bumper and the pin hole is back only another couple of inches.

But if you go with Curt hitch # C13243 then Curt also says you have to use stabilization strap # 18050 when using this hitch for any non-trailer load (such as a bike rack or cargo carrier) per their warranty requirements. That is why I recommend Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75229 (which is the hitch in the picture). The Draw-Tite model does not require the use of that strap.

You will likely be able to open the rear hatch of the vehicle with a tilting bike rack tilted down but it does depend on the rack and how wide the nearest bike is. Plus many bike racks are not meant to be tilted with bikes loaded.

That is why I recommend either a swinging bike rack such as the Apex Swing # TH9027XT. With the swinging rack it will swing off to the side of the vehicle allowing you complete access to the rear of the vehicle with or without bikes loaded.
