Will Adding a Hitch Extender Reduce Tongue Weight Capacity for Using a Folding Cargo Carrier
Question:
I want to purchase a class 3 hitch and folding cargo carrier for my 05 jeep wrangler. I doubt that any will have room to fold because of the spare tire, which BTW is oversized. so i wonder if adding an extender will work? i bet it will But will an extender alter the tongue weight limit? I need to haul some heavy appliances... thanks

An extension will alter the tongue weight limit. It reduces the hitch tongue weight limit by 50 percent. With the hitches available for a Wrangler, you would either have a 150 or 200 pound tongue weight capacity with an extender, depending on hitch model.
