How Does Thule Roof Rack Fit Kit # THKIT3142 Install in the Side Rails of a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have a 2013 jeep grand cherokee and I am confused on how the fit kit attaches to the rails. Is it only attached by taking out the existing bolts in the center of the rail and then by bolting the fit kit bolt into that hole? Does that groove in the fit kit steel grab onto the rail at all or does it just sit in the center of the rail?

It is basically as you have described. The L-shaped bracket in fit kit # THKIT3142 bolts to the rail channel on your 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It only fits if your Jeep's rails are metal with the channel in the middle. I have included a couple of pictures out of the instructions to illustrate this.
