Cargo boxes, bags, and baskets are great for transporting gear on your vehicle's roof. A cargo box has the added benefits of an aerodynamic shape that reduces drag and wind noise, a hard shell to protect your gear, and a higher degree of weather resistance. And you can latch and lock a cargo box for added protection against theft.
The Motion XT L has 16 cu ft of storage space for golf bags, luggage, skis, snowboards, and other gear. The aerodynamic, low-profile design helps to reduce drag and wind noise, and the locking lid conveniently opens from either side of your vehicle. The box has internal tie-down points for securing cargo, and the PowerClick mounting system offers easy, tool-free installation.
Durable Construction
This cargo box is constructed of durable ABS plastic that is lightweight yet rigid and impact resistant. It has a glossy silver, gel-coat finish that is stylish and less susceptible to chips, scratches, and harsh UV rays when compared with paint.
Dual-Side-Opening Lid
The Motion XT L features a dual-side-opening lid so you can load and access your gear from either side of your vehicle. Integrated, grip-friendly handles help you easily open and close the lid even with one hand. The lid has lifters that ensure it opens and closes smoothly. There is also a convenient pull cord on the inside that helps you close the lid.
SlideLock System
The cargo box has SlideLock locks on each side of the lid. These locks have built-in indicators that let you know if the box is properly latched. The keys cannot be removed from the locks unless the lid is closed and locked. This prevents you from driving with an open or unlocked lid. The locks include Thule One-Key-System cores so you can swap them out to make all your Thule accessories keyed alike.
PowerClick Mounting System
The box can be mounted on your vehicle in less than 5 minutes with the PowerClick mounting system. These clamps adjust along tracks in the floor of the box to accommodate different crossbar spreads.
To install the box, set it on your roof rack and center the clamps over your crossbars. Then simply turn the dials to tighten the clamps around the bars. The dials click when the clamps are secure.
Cargo Tie-Down Points
The PowerClick assemblies on the inside of the box have fixed anchor points for securing your cargo. Just loop the included cargo straps through the anchor points and pull the straps tight to secure your gear.

The Thule was delivered without any problems in May 2022 with no damage, so I’m very happy about that. The large 16 cubic ft rooftop carrier is quite big, but it doesn’t seem to make any noticeable wind noise. I’ve only had it up to 60mh so far on my Honda Civic, but it seems fairly aerodynamic. Not sure how much it will affect the miles per gallon yet.
It seems like a very lightweight rig, hopefully it holds up well, but only time will tell. I purchased the gray color hoping it wouldn’t get as hot in the sun as the all black model.
Probably wouldn’t have bought it but it’s too costly to drive my truck on long trips due to bidenflation. This should save me some gas money and give our family a little more room to haul stuff in the car. It was very easy to clamp onto the Thule bars I already had, and just as easy to take off. etrailer did a great job, 5stars!

Originally I ordered the glossy black box which wasn't going to be in stock for a couple weeks from the time of my order, which I knew. George notified me within an hour from placing my order and gave me the option to get the gray box which was available right away.
A couple weeks later when I thought it would be shipping, I checked the order status page and saw it was pushed back even further. Unfortunately I was not notified about that. When I contacted etrailer, they responded very quickly. I was able to swap out with the gray (same product) and it arrived super quick.
I thought they were supposed to schedule delivery but they did not. I woke up one morning to a humongous box outside the door. That’s ok though!
The box is great and we just installed it a week ago and are using it for our first weekend away right now. It is huge but fits perfect on my 2019 Mazda CX-9. No issues with hatch or anything. Super easy to get on the roof rack with the clamps. We did have three people to get it up on the car though. It’s only 42 or so lbs but big and clumsy.
I drove a little bit with it empty and feel like it chewed gas but coming a couple hours with it filled didn’t seem too bad with the highway miles. Time will tell but still worth it for the space were saving in the back of the car.
etrailer had this box when no one else had it (or any other Thule box for that matter) and we had an overall great experience with them and I LOVE the box. My family and I travel a lot and this is a game changer. We fit every duffel bag (like 5 medium to large bags) and then some other bags in there.
Highly recommend etrailer and this specific cargo box.

Excellent cargo box - spacious, quality made and easy to install. Most importantly - item was in stock and delivered very promptly! etrailer customer service is superb! They helped me to get the correct size for my van and made sure I received the order on time. I used it already on our trip to San Diego. Made a lot of difference - travelling in a van with 6 people, we were able to fit all luggage in the trunk and roof box!

Wow! The inside padding and the care taken to plastic wrap the exterior of the box, followed by strapping to a pallet insured my carrier was going to arrive in "as new" condition. Shipped very fast! The Motion XT appears to be a huge improvement over our older 'u-bolt' style cargo box, specifically the ease of installation. Test fitting the box only took 5 minutes ('21 Honda Odyssey w/ factory roof rack). I can't wait to use it during our upcoming trip. I also really appreciated the product videos on etrailer, which steered me from the Force XT to the Motion XT. I think the Motion XT's latching system is extremely user friendly, and I am sure will be my second favorite feature (next to ease of installation).
This is my second purchase from etrailer, the first being parts for my aforementioned 'u-bolt' style cargo box (latches, spare keys, etc). I have had great experiences with both of my purchases, and will certainly use etrailer again in the future.

This cargo box is huge and tall. The internal capacity is more than one or two people need to store all equipment, luggage, and gear for 2 weeks of car camping. It is not low profile and you should expect it will be neccessary to reposition your roof rack bars in order to get the box's front end angled correctly so wind is not focused toward the underside of the box. I put it on mmy Audi Q5, filled it up and went for a ride, then unpacked the thing. It is a well made item but I just could not accept how large it is and how it looked on my particular vehicle.

Best purchase for my car! I have a Volvo cross country wagon so I don't have a lot of interior space. With this rooftop carrier I was able to move a college student home in one trip. The box is great! It’s the max size for my 2018 Crosstrek (anything bigger is too big and there’s bot many smaller options).

After putting this box through the wringer, my family is thankful for this purchase. The roof box has come in handy on many trips and has allowed us to not be limited to what our Subaru Forester can carry. Still highly recommend.
