Parts Needed to LED Reverse Lamps to Boat Trailer
Question:
Im looking for a Backup Light for my Boat Trailer. I would like your opinion on which light would be best for my Trailer? I plan on mounting the light vertical, on my Trailer Guides. Ive attached a picture of my Trailer for your review. The light will be submerged when launching and loading my boat. Ive considered the BUL10CB, but Im thinking the BUL78C3MB might be easier to mount. I need the light to be bright enough to serve as a Backup Light and be DOT Compliant. Let me know your thoughts. What other accessories Wire Harness will I need? Thanks.

If you wanted to mount an oval reverse lamp on the outboard sides of the wooden guide-ons shown in the photo, you could easily do so using the following parts:
LED Submersible Back-Up Lamp, part # BUL10CB (DOT certified for Back Up Lamp Function)
Mounting bracket, part # BK70BB
Grommet, part # A70GB
Wire pigtail, part # A49PB
If you wanted to mount the lamp on the metal upright, that would be possible as well but you'd need to box off the upright somehow to provide a surface that the mounting bracket could attach to.
A flange mount lamp like the # BUL78C3MB isn't DOT certified as a Back Up Lamp. If you wanted to fabricated some sort of a mount, and were wanting a flange mounted lamp, use # BUL78CB which is DOT certified.
If your boat trailer currently has a 7-way trailer connector, you'd simply run some # DW02359-1 16 gauge wire (sold by the foot) up to the front of the trailer, and tie in the reverse lights so they connect to the center pin on the trailer connector. On the vehicle side, you'll want to make sure the center pin of the connector is tied into the reverse light circuit.
If the boat trailer currently has a 4 pole connector, you can remove it and install a 5 pole like part # HM47910. The blue wire would run to the reverse lamps. On the vehicle side, you can use a # 20036 adapter. The extra blue wire would tap into the reverse lamp circuit.
Be sure to use some dielectric grease like # LT37534 on the connection between the pigtail and the lamp to exclude water from the connection. At wiring connections on the trailer, you can use heat shrink butt connectors like # DW05744-10.
