Brake Controller Installation in 2013 Ram 1500

Question:

Looking for a brake controller to install in a 2013 Ram 1500. In my research, I have found that the normally cold side of the brake switch is hot when brakes not applied, and low when brakes applied. This was from Ram forums, and they also reference some tech bulletins from some controller manufactures. I havent physically checked voltage yet, Your Suggestions ?

The stoplight switch circuit for the 2013 Ram is carried on a multiplex circuit, were more than one circuit is carried on a common wire, which makes isolating the stoplamp signal very difficult.

The best way to install a brake controller on your 2013 Ram 1500 would be to use a brake controller wiring harness, instead of attempting to hardwire in the controller. I'd recommend going with the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885 along with the # 3023-P brake controller wiring adapter. The P2 is a top seller, because of how well it works and how easy it is to set up. The # TK90160 Primus is a less expensive alternative that would work great, unless your towing a trailer that uses an electric over hydraulic brake actuator, in which case you'd want to use the P2.

The wiring adapter would plug into the rear of the controller, and into two different connectors under the dash, as shown in the installation video I've linked for you.
