Ford F-150 STX 4-Way Trailer Wiring Harness Installation

Question:

Im not sure if you can tell me without more details but its worth a shot. Im working offshore and dont have access to my truck. I just bought a hitch for my 2007 F150 STX and am not sure which wiring harness I will need. I know my trailer is a 4pin. I would prefer a plug and go type harness to the taillights but Im not sure if they make it for my truck. Also I didnt get the tow hitch with my truck. Does that mean I will have to use the splice wiring kit? Unfortunatley my wife has no idea how to check. Thanks for your time.

Wiring your 2007 Ford F-150 STX for towing a trailer with a 4-Way flat connector should not be too hard. If you look under the truck along the inside of the driver's side frame rail, you may see a connector that has wires running to it. If so, use a circuit tester, item # PTW2993 if needed, and make sure the trailer lighting functions are working to this connector. If the circuits are live to this connector, then the Plug-N-Tow (TM) Vehicle Wiring Harness, item # 40185, will work on your vehicle. Most Ford trucks are wired for towing.

If the wiring to this plug is not active then you will have to hard wire with a 4-Pole Hardwire Kit Including Circuit Tester, item # 18252. Use the tester to find the correct taillight circuits behind the truck tail lights. The white wire is grounded to the vehicle frame, the green wire on the trailer harness goes to the right turn and brake circuit, the yellow wire goes to the left turn and brake circuit and the brown wire goes to the taillight circuit.

In the video linked below, our installer shows how to tie into the vehicles wiring for the taillight functions if you find a set of blunt cut wires on the driver's side frame rail about 2 feet from the end of the frame.
