Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan

Question:

I have a 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan with a factory socket for trailer wiring. I am going to purchase a light trailer to haul a couple of kayaks. Can you tell me what parts I would need to connect the factory socket to the trailer not yet purchased, but probably 4-pin? right?. When I search on the E-trailer sight for my vehicle it recommends a kit that does not utilize the factory socket. I have tried to research and learn about trailer wiring and have only managed to become confused. The factory parts are prohibitively expensive and seem to require my cars computer to be programmed! Is the kit you offer a low cost alternative to the factory system? Or is there a different set of plug in parts that you offer that use the factory socket? I will install the kit if I have too but would prefer a plug in solution. If I have to program the VW, I have a VW mechanic who can do that if needed.

Trailer wiring harness # 118675 will just plug in line with the tail light wiring on your 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan and connect to the battery as well to provide power to the trailer lights. The harness provides a 4-Way flat trailer connector at the back of the vehicle. It is definitely a low cost alternative to the dealer parts and installation and the computer will not have to be reprogrammed.

I have included a link to a video review of the harness, the installation instructions, and a help article with tips on routing the power wire to the battery. There isn't a harness that plugs into the factory socket on your Tiguan but this harness is still very easy to install.
