Leaf Spring, Hanger Kit and U-Bolt Kit Recommendation for Building Pontoon Boat
Question:
Hello, I am modifying a very heavy duty V bottom boat trailer into a pontoon trailer. Someone already started it and did not finish. The trailer currently has what appears to be house trailer axles with the open rim that clamps to the hub. Not sure what its called. I want to take all of this out and put new axles rated correctly on it because this thing rides so stiff it bounces the boat around on the trailer. The boat is a 24ft pontoon and weights approximately 2000 lbs including the motor. With gear and possible cooler every once in a while it could reach 2500 lbs. My question is what axle / springs should I buy for this setup? The 3500 lb axles are the only ones you sell wide enough 70inch spring centers, 85inch hub faces and I am fine with those but should I buy lower rated springs to improve ride? It will be a tandem trailer so I am thinking lower rated springs would be fine since the load will be divided across all 4 springs. Would lower rated springs fit the 3500 lb axle?

If your trailer requires spring centers that are 70 inches and hub face to hub face dimension of 85 inches we do not carry the axle you would need, but you can find a local trailer shop who can custom order you in axles to the specs you need.
Your best option would be to go with a spring setup that would match the weight you plan to tow.
The # e84SR has a 2,000 lb axle rating and would be your best option. For a tandem axle hanger kit you would want the part # APT5. The hardware you would need to attach the springs to your axle will depend on the diameter axle you end up going with.
Since you plan to go with a 3,500 lb axle (or if you do), the part # APUBR-1 is designed to fit 3,500 lb axles that are 2-3/8 inches in diameter. If you go with a different axle diameter check out the link I attached to see all of the kits we offer.
