Recommended Class III Trailer Hitch for a 2006 Honda Pilot
Question:
Im interested in getting a hitch for my 2006 Honda Pilot and have been reviewing the info you have online for both the Curt #13328 and the Hidden #87454. I believe the Draw-Tite is identical to the Hidden - arent then manufactured by same parent company? I know that part of my question will sound redundant but... You say that both hitches are rated the same, but the 2 extra bolts on the Curt must serve some additional purpose? For extra stability or something. And I find the videos slightly confusing with respect to the Pilot. Some say to remove the spare and/or the muffler while others dont do either. Also will the factory spare still fit if the Curt is installed with that extra flange? I like the idea of the Curt with the extra bolts but dont want to order the Curt and then run into trouble with the spare tire not fitting. Thanks for the reply...

You are correct that Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch brands were sister companies, both part of Cequent Performance Products, and that their hitches # 75599 and 87454 are identical apart from their branding. Hidden Hitch is now discontinued.
You are also correct that the Curt hitch option for your 2006 Pilot, part # 13328, does include an additional mounting flange at its center that is not used on the other hitches. In some cases this extra flange will require trimming of the rear fascia; this trimming is not required with the Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch items.
Temporary removal of the spare tire and lowering of the exhaust are steps that can simplify any hitch installation, even though these steps may not be absolutely necessary in all instances. It is not hard to lower an exhaust for better access to the mounting points but this step can save you some time (and maybe some skinned knuckles). Our professional installers often include this sometimes-optional step since it will surely make things easier for the first-time installer.
Curt's engineering decision to include that extra flange does not affect the hitch's rating. The Curt # 13328 carries the exact same capacities as the others so you do not need to be concerned about capacity being different because of this feature. My recommendation is the Hidden Hitch # 87454 since it does not require trimming to keep your spare tire in place. A video and helpful article are linked for you.
If you will be towing you'll also need a wiring harness # C55336 and I suggest etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900 which includes several ball mounts and two hitch ball sizes.
