Blowing 30-Amp Relay on a 2014 GMC Sierra 2500 if Trailer is Connected to Factory Brake Controller
Question:
The trail or breaks work fine with add on break controllers but when I hook up my gmc the computer says there is a break problem and I have no breaks The dealer says its my trailer breaks? They are fine with our other two trucks with after market controllers

If the factory brake controller in your 2014 GMC Sierra 2500 has a switch to select its operating mode, either for electric trailer brakes or for an electric-over-hydraulic (EOH) type actuator, make sure it is in the correct position for the type of brakes on the trailer that is connected. Aftermarket controllers like the popular and reliable Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 will work with both types of brakes and have such a selector switch. If your controller has one it needs to be in the correct position for the type of brakes on the trailer or you can certainly get error messages.
If your trailer brakes operate properly with an aftermarket controller then you can certainly safely disregard the dealer's comments about the trailer being the issue!
Despite the apparent convenience of a factory-installed brake controller many owners end up replacing the factory unit with a more reliable aftermarket type anyway. These are usually less costly than the factory units as well as being more versatile and reliable.
