Hitch and Motorcycle Carrying Options for 2012 Ford Focus Hatchback
Question:
Hello I need to get a bolt-on hitch for my 2012 Ford Focus Hatchback. I plan to put a motorcycle carrier on the hitch because I am moving from California to Illinois and of course cant be without my bike. The motorcycle weighs just under 500lbs. Thanks for your time John

The hitches that are available for your 2012 Focus Hatchback are all Class I hitches, that have a 200 lb tongue weight capacity. This would mean that 200 lbs is the maximum amount of weight that would be suspended from the hitch, which would include the weight of the carrier.
I'm sorry to say that you wouldn't be able to carry your bike on a hitch mounted carrier. This being said, you could still install a hitch like the Curt Hitch # C11158 and carry your bike on a small utility trailer. You'd want to install a wheel chock like part # RA-17 and use tie-downs like # EM05710 and # 06303.
The hitch I recommended includes a pin and clip, but not a draw bar or trailer ball. For a 2 inch ball, use # 19258 or # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch ball.
You'll also need to install a trailer wiring harness, part # 118549. You can see install videos for the hitch and the wiring harness by clicking the provided links.
