How to Correct Trailer Brake Squeal When Using Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller # 90885
Question:
The problem that I have with my brake controller is that the trailer brakes come on too hard if I barely touch the brakes. I cant drive down the road without my trailer brakes squealing every time I touch the brakes.

Trailer brake controllers like the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 have power and boost settings to allow you to find the correct braking force for your trailer and driving conditions. These controls are shown in the linked photo as items A and B.
You can try adjusting your power and boost levels down to reduce the braking force sent to the trailer. If this fails to correct the excessive force you may have an issue in the trailer brakes themselves.
Electric drum brakes should have a slight drag when you manually rotate the trailer wheel by hand. When no brakes are applied you should be able to turn the wheel but still feel some drag and even hear it too. Try adjusting your brakes' adjustment wheel to reduce the brake pad tension against the drums to see if this helps. Please refer to the linked video at the 1:55 mark.
