Where to Find Towing and Weight Capacities for a 2014 Chevy Silverado Diesel and 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

Can you tow a 14000 lb fifth wheel with 2000 lbs of cargo with a 2500 Silverado 4WD and a short box? Will I be at or over the towing rating and the gross vehicle rating of both the truck and the RV?

First, you are going to want to check the owners manual for your 2014 Chevy Silverado 2500. Different configurations of the truck have different towing capacities, gross combined weight ratings, and gross vehicle weight ratings. Once you have found your specific configuration that should cover the truck and the gross combined rating which is the most the truck and trailer can weigh together including all passengers, cargo, and fuel.

For the trailer there should be a gross trailer weight listed in its literature or it could be on a sticker or plate on the pin box if not the frame. If the trailer is a toy hauler than 2,000 is likely within its capacity. But if it is a regular 5th wheel trailer it might not have a cargo capacity of 2,000 pounds.
