Lug Nut Torque for a Trailer Wheel

Question:

I am just wondering what the wheel torque of the 5 on 4 1/2 white powder coated wheels would be for a boat trailer? its a 3500 lb single axle on the trailer, I just put new dexter hub/drums on it last year. My local tire shop said they torque all their trailer wheels to 90 or 95 ft lbs which seemed like a lot to me. Felt like I was stretching the studs.

Expert Reply:

90-95 ft lbs of torque is probably about right for your trailer rims. If you check out the lug nut torque chart that I attached you will see that nearly all of the torque specs are that and higher.
