Installing D-Ring Surface Mount Tie-Down Anchors on a Aluminum Snowmobile Trailer

Question:

My question is where on the aluminum frame of my trailer can I attach my Surface mount D-Ring anchors without weakening the frame to where it will crack. Or should I just go through the wood decking but its to hold my four wheelers down on the trailer. Feel into the frame etc. would hold them better. Just dont want the alum to crack or develop them. Where is the best place to do this and safe? Appreciate your help. This is a flat snowmobile two place trailer with no cover!

The Brophy D-Ring Tie Down Anchor - Bolt-On - 3-1/2" Wide - Surface Mount - 1,600 lbs # SR15-C are steel anchors with a zinc finish. Although the zinc finish will help avoid galvanic corrosion from dissimilar metals, the connection by drilling into the aluminum frame is not the best option.

It is true the frame will typically be a stronger connection point than the wood deck, but in this case the wood is a better option when secured close to the frame yet not touching it. A good option for anywhere on your wood deck is the Brophy D-Ring Tie Down Anchor w Backing Plate - Bolt-On - 1/2" Wide - Recessed - 1,600 lbs # RR5K because the wider base and backing plate will give you the additional support with the same capacity rating. This comes with all the hardware needed as well.
