Replacing Factory Hitch on a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Long Bed with a New Trailer Hitch

Question:

I need to replace the factory hitch on my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 long bed truck. I will be removing the old hitch and would like the new one to ride as high as the old one. the trailer I am pulling weighs in around 8000lbs. your web site shows 4 units that will work, but the Curt # 15409 is mounted below the oem hitch. any help or clarification would be helpful thanks

All of our trailer hitches that fit your 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 with a factory hitch, will sit below the factory hitch.

Since you are removing your factory hitch, the Curt hitch I recommend is # 14361 as it's 6-1/2 inches from the top of the receiver tube to the bottom of your truck's frame. It's a Class-IV hitch and has a gross trailer weight of 10,000 pounds. See the diagram I created for you.

You will want to use that dimension and compare it to where your current hitch sits.

I included a few informative articles for you too.
