Fifth Wheel Rail Kit Recommendation for a 2005 Ford F-150 5-1/2 foot Bed
Question:
Will the custom brackets that fit a 2005 Ford 150 attach to an Owens Classic bed rail? Newer truck, older 5th wheel hitch. Thanks in advance

For your 2005 Ford F-150 with a 5-1/2 foot bed you will need to start with a custom fifth wheel install kit like part # RP50081-58. A custom install kit will minimize drilling and will cut install time in half when compared to a universal one. Now to determine if your older style hitch will fit these rails you will need to compare your hitch to the dimensions in the picture I attached.
Since you have such a short bed you will need to replace your current pin box with a Sidewinder so that you can make tight turns without interference.
You will need to remove the pin box of the trailer and replace it with a Sidewinder pin box. Sidewinders are pin box specific so you will first need to know what pin box you have now in order to pick out the correct one.
There should be a sticker or a stamping on the OEM pin box of the trailer that will list the pin box number that is on the trailer.
Once you figure out which pin box you have you can check the FAQ I attached that has a chart that shows the correct Sidewinder to get based on which pin box you have.
If the bedrail you mentioned is a product that adds height to the side of your bed rails you may encounter interference between the overhang of your trailer and the bed rails.
