Weldnut Cleaning Recommendation for Installation of Curt Hitch part # C13128

Question:

The M14-2 x110 Hex mounting bolt is too long. I have enough room for at least another washer. Could another washer or two be used to take up the space or should a shorter bolt be used? Also if I need to remove the bolt to place washers could the integrity of the bolt have been compromised? I want to make sure the head will not twist due to it being fully tightened with this amount of space remaining. Please let me know you thoughts and what I need to do to get additional washers and / or a new bolt. Thanks,

If it seems like the long M14-2 x 110 bolt used to install the Curt Hitch part # C13128 is too long and is topping out in your vehicle weldnut then most likely the problem is that you have a dirty weldnut that needs to be cleaned. If you check out the help article on cleaning weldnuts you will see ways to help get the threads back to normal so the bolt will thread all the way in.

I also attached an install for this hitch for you to check out as well.
