Installing A Brake Controller On 2002 Chevrolet Silverado
Question:
I want to connect my trailer brake control to vehicle. Is there an adapter that will work with a 2002 Silverado 1500HD or will I have to wire it direct? Thanks

If you have a 7-way connector at the rear of your 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500HD, the installation for a brake controller can be very simple.
If you have a brake controller, you will need to know what the manufacturer is and you will want to see if there is an adapter that can plug into the harness on your Silverado.
If you do not have a brake controller I recommend part # 90885, and then an adapter that will work with the brake controller. I recommend this brake controller because it is easy to install and operate. For the Tekonsha brake controllers you would need part # 3025-P.
If you do not have a 7-way connector at the back of your Silverado, the installation is a bit more involved. You will still need the # 3025-P, but you will have some additional wiring to do at the back of your Silverado.
I have attached a link to an installation video of a brake controller on a Silverado you can take a look at.
Above the spare tire, you will find either a round plug or bundled wires. If you find a round plug, you will need part # 30955. This will plug right into the round plug and give you a 7-way connector at the back.
If you do not have the plug but have the bundled wires, you will need Pollak 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector Socket w/ Wiring Harness and Mounting Bracket, part # PK11898.
I have attached a helpful article that explains how each of these installations should be done for your Silverado you can check out.
