Can 13 Inch Trailer Tires be Used on 14 Inch Wheels

Question:

Have old trailer one side has ST175/80D13 on 14inch rim with 4 bolt pattern and its holding air. The other side is same tire and rim size but is not holding air. So the question is should i buy new 14inch wheel and set tire on that or buy 2 rims at 13inch and reset both tires? Both tires are new btw. Thanks.

As you probably know, using 13 inch tires on 14 inch wheels is not a good idea. The tire is not designed to fit that size and so it has to stretch and when it stretches that is when you run into problems.

I recommend switching the tires to 14 inch (if you have currently have space all around the existing tires for the larger size). You would not want to reuse the 13 inch tires on new 13 inch wheels because there could be unseen damage on them. Recycle those tires and get some new 14 inch tires.

The next size up in a 14 inch is a 205/75-14. This will be 1.1 inches wider than the tires you have now and 2.2 inches taller. For a bias ply tire in this size, load range C, use # AM1ST86. For a radial use # AM10234.

In the event that the larger size is too large to fit the trailer without rubbing the frame or a fender or something else on the trailer then you would want to go to 13 inch tire/wheel combos. For bias, load range C use # AM3S120. A radial version isn't available in this size.
