Typical Mileage Lifespan from Magnets in Electric Trailer Brake Assemblies

Question:

How many miles do the brake magnets last on a 7, 10inch and 12inch brakes? Considering normal driving. Thanks.

The three sizes of electric trailer drum brakes you referenced, 7-, 10- and 12-inch diameters, are intended for different axle weight capacities. Since each size will presumably have a proportionate weight load it has to stop, their wear rates will not vary too much. It cannot be generalized that one size or another will last longer because they are all asked to do about the same work relative to their rated capacity.

The term "normal driving" means different things to different people. Someone living in the mountains will put far more wear on their trailer brakes than someone living on the prairie.

With all of that being said, a "normal" circumstance with a trailer whose brakes start off in good working order might deliver two of three years of use, but again, it depends whether those are highway miles (much less brake usage) or local road miles.

A good safety rule is to check your brakes every time you head out, and certainly to replace them no less often than you replace your tires. I suggest no more than 12 months or 12,000 miles between changing brake parts that can wear. The linked article may be helpful.
