Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

The e98865 Trailer Hitch Receiver is perfect for my application. It is beautifully made and I don't think I'll have any trouble with it at all.

While it got a rough ride from the shipping company, and the corners of the end plates were protruding from the box sides, this didn't seem to have damaged the powder coat at all.

It is a very precise fit, which I really like, but that precise fit means you have to align it pretty well or it will catch and bind when you raise it into position under the car (that doesn't mean I think you should change it!). The method of installing the center bolts with the included feed wire worked perfectly; you just have to remember to unscrew it from the first bolt (rather than just pulling it off) to preserve its shape for the second one. I had no issues at all with the installation, and I did it entirely by myself with the vehicle on the ground. For those installing under these conditions, I recommend using jack stands to hold it up while you start hardware.

If I have any suggestions at all, I would say it would have helped me a little if the wire for installing the center bolts was maybe just 3" or so longer. I didn' really have any trouble with this, but a bit of extra length would have helped when threading it through the bumper tube to pick up to attach the bolts and rectangular washers. Even this in only the difference between damn near perfect and absolutely perfect.

I could have attached pictures, but excepr for the color of my 2016 Equinox (white) it's all identical to the video on the website.

After a year, Im as happy with this hitch receive as I was when I first installed it. It fits like a factory piece, but appears to be a bit heavierstronger than most. It looks good and performs about as well as I could hope or expect.

by:

Very solid construction, awesome video online to help with installation. Extremely helpful to have the fish wire for threading through the frame.

A word of advice for anyone buying, make sure you have a wire brush to clean out the threads on your frame - mine were rusted so badly that we were lucky to ever get the bolts on.

Love the advice that is given. It is a great idea to use a wire brush like part # 814092 to clean out the weld nuts and make sure the bolts will thread in before you get started on the installation. Just be careful not to damage the threads.

Still great one year later. Holding firm and does a great job supporting my bikes.

by:

The trailer hitch seems very well constructed and solid. I do think it would be good if going forward that the mounting hardware included a 12mm tap for the side holes of the frame. As it would of helped me with my installation.

by:
2006 Chevrolet Equinox

It came in great condition but the box was pretty beat up and part of the hitch was exposed. I'd dock them a star for it but shipping was fast, free and it didn't get damaged. If the bolts weren't secured to the hitch though they would have fallen out.

It fit perfectly and installation was super easy. I used my hydraulic jack with a board to get it in place. Zipped in the bolts and was fishing in less than 2hrs from delivery. I didn't read the directions so I can't rate those.
Overall I'd buy from them again.

by:

Prior to my ordering this for my 2006 Equinox, I checked underneath for the mounting hardware and found that all six points were welded nuts inside the frame. After ordering I began the immediate task of cleaning 17 years' worth of grim out. Soaking with WD40 overnight I had hoped to blow it all out with compressed air. Not happening!! I checked the diameter and hit upon a solution, and it may also work for you. I could not find any round metal brushes that would fit the hole and stay rigid enough to clean out the treads. I purchased several 10mm bore brushes from our local go to store for under $2 apiece. They fit and worked great to clean the threads out, (I used a pair of plyers in lieu of a handle due to space constrictions). Used Q-tips with some grease to lube the nuts to finish prep for installation of the hitch when it arrived.

I am 65 years old; I have one eye and an attitude that will not allow me to not start a project that I cannot finish, that said the hitched arrived in two days around 5:15pm. I immediately started to work, grabbed my handy wheeled floor jack and set to work. Placing it on the jack at the center point, lifted it up and it slid perfectly into the correct position and amazingly, all mounting holes were lined up! I started at the top on each side and placed the washers and bolts in place, then the side bottom bolts and washers, leaving them all loose. Removed the jack and mounted the two bolts and washers for the receiver portion. Tightened and torqued to specs (XXft lbs) I had it installed by 6:35pm.

etrailer not only provided the perfect wiring harness, but the trailer hitch also matched my vehicle to a "T"!! Very easy to install and is a Secure and solid constructed trailer hitch, the "BEST" priced and quick delivery, was just icing on the cake! I now can enjoy hauling my pop-up camper again and look forward to knowing that my new trailer hitch will provide years of great use into the future.

2016 Buick Enclave

Overall a great product. It would have been nice to know the tap/bolt size used to clean up the threads a head of time. My 2005 Chevy Equinox is older and had lots of rust accumulated between the welded nut holes nearest to the 2 inch receiver. I used a hammer to lightly tap all the rust free so the hitch would bolt up tight to the bumper.

by:

The etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver fit my needs perfectly for my bike rack and was delivered quickly!

by:

Perfect fit on my 2014 Equinox. I used an M12x1.75 tap as recommended to clear threads. Will be using it mainly for a bike carrier. Only issue was running fish wire from left side, some debris from when vehicle was built interfered with pulling bolt and plate thru. I removed the lower bumper cover and used a pry bar to clear obstacle. Wasn't too difficult.

by:

The packaging was very poor, one of the box looks like it was never stapled correctly, parts of the hitch were sticking out of the box. Fortunately the bag with the instructions and bolts was intact and appears complete. I have not installed the hitch yet will do that this weekend. The shipper never rang my doorbell they just dropped the box on the front porch. I only knew it was there when my son came home and told there was a box on front porch. I was happy with my previous order of a tire for my travel trailer. I think you need to watch the people packaging items for shipment so they do a better job. See attached pictures for reference.

by:

Very, very easy install! What took the longest was cleaning the threads for the hitch mounting bolts. Recommend getting a tap to clean the threads.

by:

Hitch works great, I use it often. Installation was straight forward. Everything lined up perfectly. It took a little patience to feed the 2 bolts through the holes in the car frame using the helical wire tool provided, but it came together perfectly. The other 4 bolts were easy.

by:
2017 Chevrolet Equinox

While the hitch itself looks and feels great, the fasteners included did not work for my 2017 Equinox, I ended up having to go out and locate some M10 bolts for the frame rail weld nuts and obviously some smaller washers to make the installation safe, this was a real hassle and took me way longer to finish.

Gerardo

11/3/2023

Despite the issues with the fasteners during installation, it has been well worth it. After a year of wear an tear, the hitch has held up very nicely, there are obvious signs of use but after a small paint touch up last month in preparation for the snow, it still looks very good and performs just as if it was new.

by:
2014 Chevrolet Equinox

Installation on a 2014 chevy equinox was a snap. Fits perfectly, looks good and works as expected.

by:

Great trailer hitch highly recommend it. Fast shipping easy to install. Great instructions.

by:
2007 Chevrolet Equinox

The hitch receiver is of excellent quality and would have gotten a 5 star, but only 2 of the bolts were the right size. Wasn't a problem as I have a plethora of grade 8 bolts in the garage. Don't let this steer you away as this is a very well made receiver.

by:
2015 GMC Terrain

Very happy with the hedge easy installation directions were simple and well written. I also come up with an idea after installing the hitch see the video I will share see what I did.

by:

It came with oversize bolts to the sub frame.Good thing I had a bucket of bolts.Would not have been able to get the job done. Not a happy camper.

by:

Easy installation

by:
2012 GMC Terrain

The trailer hitch fit perfectly on my Terrain. IT took a little work to install, but went on perfectly with no issues. The only issue was the shipping. It would be helpful if the ends of the hitch were wrapped. The bars came out of the box on each end. The videos were very helpful.

This is a very nice trailer hitch it’s nice and sturdy it’s a little heavy but I managed it myself using a floor jack.

by:
2013 Chevrolet Equinox

Perfect fit. Easy install with the help of a floor jack. Even a 80 year old can do it.

by:

Extremely appreciative of the tech help I got from Phillip at etrailer
Knowledge was spot on with our vehicle and the products needed to install the hitch, wiring, and bracket.

by:

Perfect fit. Hard part was cleaning the holes in a 10 year old vehicle. Easy one person install with the assistance of a floor jack.

by:

Works great. Have a wheelchair holder on receiver and stuff tied down and it just holds it all. Holds to vehicle great. Perfect fit. Wish I had got it years ago.

2015 GMC Terrain

The installation of this hitch is very easy. My GMC Terrain is a 2015 so the side mounting holes were very rusty.FYI the person who attached the weld nuts to this vehicle was obviously Intoxicated none of the are centered in with the hole in the frame and none sit flat against the frame so they sit at a bit of an angle. This is not the fault of the hitch just a heads up to others. My solution was to screw a size smaller tap into the hole this does several things partially cleans out the threads clears hole all the way through and will give you an idea at what angle the weld nut is positioned. Then start the proper sized tap at that angle so as not to cross thread the nut. Next use the supplied fish wire to pull the two center bolts into place. Now you ready to install the hitch. I recommend putting the top bolt on each side first do not tighten. tip hitch up and start the nuts on the two center bolts tighten these bolts just so the hitch touches the frame. The lower side bolts should be lined up with slot in hitch you may have to give it a love tap with a hammer.screw lower side bolts in finger tight.Tighten two center bolts all the way then side bolts and you are done. It took about 4hrs. total including cleaning the thread holes and installing the wiring harness. I am in my late 50's so I am sure it can be done quicker. Highly recommend this hitch.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Hitch Receiver Bolts That Won"t Install in Factory Weldnuts
For your 2013 Chevy Equinox, the # e98865 you bought (according to the invoice associated with your email) is the correct fit. It is a fit for 2005 to 2017 models so it is likely there is either grime in the weldnuts or powder coat overspray that is in the threads that needs to be cleaned up. I don't think the bolts are too big... which should be M12-1.75 x 40mm. I've attached a help article on cleaning the weldnuts to assist.
