Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

In spite of some good packaging, the hitch came punched thru the cardboard at one end. My concern was the bolts which could have fallen out, might be missing, but everything was securely taped to the middle of the hitch. I had Uhaul install it the following week without a problem, but it did take the kid a couple of hours. Glad to have them do it based on the video and some reviews here. BMW 2017 X1 - they, BMW, said you couldn't put a hitch on this car so I foolishly believe them for years. Fits great, thanks etrailer & Curt!

by:

The video we found for the 2016 X1 was not accurate. We only had to loosen the muffler / exhaust system to get the hitch installed. Taking off the bumper, heat shield, etc just wastes time and is unnecessary for a 2017 X1.

by:

Just received my hitch today. Won't be installing it right away, garage is full.
As a welder myself the welds look great, materials used are not flimsy. Finish is nice.
Has some weight to it so a little help will be needed.
Box it came in was a touch to big for the item so it bounces around in there, box was also damaged but that's the
Transport company. Can't wait to install it. Great service, and follow ups with etrailer staff. Thanks

by:

No problems with the hitch, nothing missing, works as expected. The installation video was very good, but convinced me to pay a mechanic to do the work. Glad I did: previous installation experience makes a big difference.

by:

As far as the product itself is concerned I have absolutely no problems as it is a very well-made sturdy hitch and I’m sure it will serve many years of trouble free service. However as for the installation for a weekend garage mechanic, I felt that the 1-hour estimate for how long it would take were inaccurate. I’m a repeat etrailer customer and have installed 4 hitches on previous vehicles so I’m not a beginner and I have all the necessary ramps, jacks, drills, wrenches, torque wrench and the necessary hand tools. The problem came with drilling 5 large holes into the vehicle frame and having the scorching hot metal shavings landing on your arms and neck area was definitely a problem and no matter how clean you try to keep the area you are still laying in sharp metal shavings while you are trying to complete the installation. Even gloves, long sleeves, dust mask and safety glasses doesn’t keep the metal shavings from finding (and burning) bare skin. So this is just a note of caution for garage mechanics to beware of the conservative installation time noted (I took 4 hours). I also watched the very detailed and extremely helpful [installation] video several times to make sure I had all of the right tools but when a vehicle is up on a professional lift and access is easier the install will go much smoother. The video does not address the home mechanic reality.

I bought this trailer hitch for my BMW X1 in order to attach a bike rack. It’s a perfect fit, hardly notice it when the bike rack isn’t on, highly recommend!

by:

This hitch receiver fits perfectly and looks great. I love it! etrailer seems to have the best quality products in the market.

by:

Perfect fit for my 2018 X1.

by:

I would give this 5 stars, but the box was damaged significantly and the hitch was scratched up. It appeared that it was shipped this way as the label was put on over the tape repairing the tears in the box.

Installation was involved, as expected. We had to drill multiple holes and fish hardware inside the frame rails. But all the needed hardware was included, the instructions were clear, it went together as expected. It took us about 90 minutes to complete the installation. I do have air tools and a lift that allowed me to get the car up in the air which made this MUCH easier. I would add another hour to the installation time if you're working on the ground.

by:

The trailer hitch was exactly as described, the pricing was excellent, and installation video really helpful. The hitch continues to pull various loads safely.

by:

easy ordering process good sevice

by:

Perfect fit on the X1. Loved the 2" hitch for lugging the bike rack around. The tow-hitch was solid and had no issues once installed. I would happily buy this hitch again for the next car.

by:

Good fit to vehicle. Excellent quality hitch receiver. However, neck of receiver is recessed 1 to 2" under bumper, so an extended ball mount had to be purchased after finding the original standard-length one did not provide enough clearance between the ball and bumper.

by:

Trailer Hitch for my BMW X1 worked out great. We are using it for a bike rack and it is perfect for the two bikes we will be hauling. I believe it is a little more involved in attaching for people that think they will be just bolting it on to the frame. I had a friend of mine, who owns a body shop, install it. It took him a couple hours to do, but came out great.

by:

I fitted an etrailer hitch to my BMW x-1 a year ago. It's worked perfectly and without any........er.....hitches.

by:

Love it! Really straight forward install... There were a few discrepancies between the paper instructions vs. the installation video. Maybe the paper instructions were written prior to 2016 X1? I don’t know, but following the installation video is the way to go. Any person with a sense of mechanical knowledge, this is really straight forward.

by:

It fits perfect, I’m really satisfied with this product and would recommend it to anyone who would like to purchase a trailer hitch

by:

Product is excellent, and fits the 2017 BMW X1 perfectly.

Full disclosure though - installation is not as easy as just threading a few bolts. You have to remove the bumper surround and heat shield, disconnect some of the parking assist electronics, drill holes in the frame, etc. The project took me two hours (a professional could do it in half the time, I suspect).

by:

Very good hitch, though needed more drilling than the instructions indicated. Shipping was slowed, but only because of a natural disaster here. Good value.

by:

Hitch is great. Little harder to install on my 2017 BMW X1 than I thought, but nothing the local shop couldn’t help with. Great personalized customer service from etrailer. Would definitely buy from them again.

by:

This hitch was the only style we could use on our BMWX1. etrailer was super helpful in finding the model and shipped it to us in 2 days. Their prices are very competitive and they have stock. Many of our local shops have no stock or have limited options.

by:

I’ve ordered multiple products from etrailer.com and I always receive superior customer service and quick shipping!

Product arrived as stated a d a perfect fit on my 2020 BMW X1.

  • Will Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Interfere with Hands-Free lift Gate on a 2017 BMW X1
While it is unlikely that etrailer trailer hitch # e93KR will interfere with the hands-free hatch sensors on your 2017 BMW X1 there is still the possibility that it will limit functionality of it. This means that the range the sensors can see can be reduced. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # EBMK4. It comes with a ball mount with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop, interchangeable ball set, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. If the ball mount kit...

  • Ball Mount for European Bike Rack
I have a solution but the Weigh Safe 180 Hitch 2-Ball Mount # WS54FR will not work with this because most European Bike Racks require a 50mm ball to attach to. The two included balls with Weigh Safe ball mount are not the correct size. Also, this ball mount is no longer available. You will need a 50mm Hitch Ball # # EH53C-C and a ball mount with a 1" mounting hole like the Curt Ball Mount for 2" Hitches # C45030. This will allow you to mount your euro-style Thule VeloSpace XT3 Bike Rack...

That's a Great question! The etrailler- matte black - Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit- Class III - 2" part # e93KR will fit your 0217 BMW X1 Sport model perfectly. While they are very different than the standard models of the X1 the Sport offers a very similar installation. The difference is that you are going to remove a slightly larger section of that rear fascia. Instead of removing the smaller gray lower fascia you will remove the slightly larger black lower fascia area. If...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2018 BMW X1
For your 2018 BMW X1 I would recommend the etrailer part # e93KR. The reason I recommend it is because it has the highest towing capacities and doesn't require a stabilizer strap like # 18050 when carrying a non-supported load like a bike rack like the Curt requires. I attached the installation instructions for you to check out as well.

  • Hitch and Step Through E-Bike Rack For 2020 BMW X1
For a hitch, I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver Part # e93KR. This is a Class III hitch that has a 2" receiver opening. It provides a maximum tongue weight rating of 525 pounds, as well as a maximum tow rating of 3500 pounds. When use for towing, please advise the owner's manual for the appropriate tow rating for your vehicle specified from the manufacturer. Now for a bike rack. • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2019 BMW X1
The trailer hitch I highly recommend for your 2019 BMW X1 is the etrailer Trailer Hitch # e93KR because it has a concealed crosstube and its black matte finish helps the receiver that is showing, blend into the vehicle more than a glossy black hitch would. This Class III, 2" trailer hitch is almost entirely hidden behind your bumper so your 2019 BMW X1 maintains its stellar look. Additionally, the hitch's matte black powder coat finish not only looks good, it protects it from corrosion....

Sometimes a vehicle will have both Class II and Class III hitches available for it but in the case of the 2016 BMW X1 only the larger and higher-capacity Class III option exists. Great question! The difference between the etrailer Trailer Hitch # e93KR and Curt Trailer Hitch # C13303 for your 2022 BMW X1 is the powder coat. Our hitch has a matte black powder coat that is a little thicker and has a "flat" color tone to it while the Curt has a glossy finish that is a bit more noticeable. I tend to prefer the subtle approach which is why I typically recommend the etrailer alternative. We haven't had a chance to install the etrailer hitch as of yet (December 2022)...
