Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for 2017 BMW X1 and Mazda MX-5

Hi there, I did business with you all before on a rear gate rack, but have now decided a trailer hitch will be best option for me. Can you confirm which trailer hitches and accompanying racks will work with a: - 2017 BMW X1 - 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata? I will install on one of these two cars. Thank you,

For your 2017 BMW X1 the best hitch for carrying a bike rack is the etrailer part # e93KR as it does not require a stabilizer strap when carrying a non-supported load like a bike rack like the Curt hitch does.

For your 2017 Mazda MX-5 we only have a Curt hitch like the part # C11435 which will require you to use the stabilizer strap part # 18050 when carrying a bike rack. Based on this I'd recommend you go with the hitch for the BMW.

I really like the Saris Freedom Superclamp part # SA4025F. This is a lightweight platform rack (which is normally an unheard of combo). That means it'll be easy to install and remove from your vehicle since it's light, but also it'll be very easy to load bikes on since it's a platform rack. It can also fit both hitch sizes of 2 inch and 1-1/4 inch.

This rack also only touches bikes at the tire so it protects any damage to delicate frame materials or finishes.
