Works well except the "donut" that fits on the driver's side post keeps falling off and the one on the passenger side almost makes it impossible to remove the tailgate.
Plastic but durable. Unless you open and close it a lot. Then the closing mechanisms break. No parts can be found and the warranty says I have to ship the whole thing back to get replaced and I have to cover all shipping.
I purchased same a few years back from etrailer and didn't hesitate to again. The improvements since ,to now are great ,stronger ,trim end pieces,and lock are a great improvement.Love it and etrailer for always what I need. All the videos help so much.
I would guess the left hand does not speak to the right hand. After several weeks, numerous calls, emails, and photos to show your highly experienced salesman that two male fittings do not a hinge make. I went as far as sending a picture of the CORRECT hinge, and even then, his vast experience, and intellect, could not, or would not, accept the FACT that etrailer sent the wrong tailgate. I finally convinced the salesman, at etrailer, that the wrong tailgate was sent. Although the box it came in was destroyed on arrival, I had to pay to have it boxed for return. etrailer made out on that box, I'm sure. You can rest assured I will no longer do business with etrailer, nor will I recommend you to any RV club or truck owner, let alone a friend.
My son and I just installed the Stromberg Louvered Tailgate in only 20 minutes , just a few minor adjustments to the side covers and it fit like a glove. And to be honest , my wife loves it because I nearly tore the factory tailgate off our f 250 when I forgot to lower it after disconnect of our fifthwheel . Thank you etrailer.com
I reviewed the feedback on the installation of the tailgate, ordered the tailgate, and received the tailgate in a very timely manner. I unpacked the tailgate and actually read the instructions. I was in no hurry to install the tailgate, so I read the instructions step by step. It took about 40 minutes to install the tailgate. Had I rushed, it would have been about 20 minutes; however, mistakes could have occurred. I cannot see any problem installing the tailgate and it looks and functions perfect. I am 69 years old and had no problem installing it. Thank you for a great product.

The tailgate is perfect and was a great purchase.
It’s funny you checked in at this time. I’m really dissatisfied with the product. Sometimes it latches sometimes it doesn’t. When I release the mechanism one side will disengage and the other won’t no matter what I do. It’s very frustrating. There are times when it won’t latch and I need to bungee it in place. I like the tailgate Bcuz I have a gooseneck trailer and like the dip in the gate but honestly I may install my old tailgate if you don’t have any idea on how to fix my issues. Thanks

Received the gate quickly and package was not damaged. Could not use the rubber bushing or the pvc piece on my 99 F-250 SD. I have a round piece already on the truck. When I finally discovered that the gate slides right on to it, the rest of the installation was a breeze. Just put some lithium grease on my existing metal tube and on the screws I installed. Nice looking gate, and latches and lock work fine. Would order again from trailer.
This is my second such tailgate, having destroyed the first when the 5'vr dropped off the hitch and took out the back of the pickup!
Installation went well. One surprise was that the drivers side insert was the same diameter as The pivot point. Mounted the tailgate directly on the truck pivot point and used the the dark grey slotted piece on the passenger side. This left a little bit more room for the tailgate to move back and forth sideways than I would have liked but overall the rest of the installation went well. About 45 minutes to install and a lot of that was thinking over the pivot points. Looks great and I think a fair price for the gate.
I wouldn't buy another one. It does the job but not verybwell made. The lock already broke, the latch rods broke and it's a bear to close. You have to set esch latch after you close the gate or it will open back up.
I'm not really nad at it. Just over priced forbthe quality.
Tailgate was easy to install, but the driver side round hinge was bent and wouldn't slide on but after bending it back in place everything assembled great.
Great product! Arrived as promised and had it installed within 30 minutes of delivery. Fit perfectly after a slight adjustment of the passenger side striker. This was by far the easiest installation of a “bolt-on” product I’ve ever had... that includes parts for my Jeep!

Do not buy this tailgate. Save your money and have one made. Can not put weight on it. Tried to send it back but because It was put on I was told NO. Do not buy this please don't do it.

We do have it listed on the product page that this tailgate is not rated for weight bearing applications.
It took a whopping 10 minutes to install. It came in less then a week melissa got it for me for valentine's day. Customer service is awesome

The tailgate broke while installing. I ask for a replacement part and never got the part or so much as a answer back. Do you think I would use you again the answer is certainly no.

Don't have to deal with it and my 5th wheel connection.
Good solid product. Had to shave off some of the PVC pipe that was about 1/8 inch too long to get the tailgate on, but now fits fine. Had to drill out the hole for one side cover because the hole didn't line up but was a minor fix. Lock works good. Still would recommend for a good replacement for the original. Now I'll order the insert and a back up camera.

The tailgate works great. Makes hooking up the 5th wheel and ease since I dont have to down the tailgate. One of the clips that holds a rod broke and they sent replacements within days. Was easy to install.
Overall I am hopefully it will survive for a year. The quality is not impressive. There is a warning about the cables not holding the weight of a person. Why not? How are you supposed to get into the truck bed without stepping on the tailgate? I used my original cables so I know they will hold but I am not confident in the tailgate itself holding my weight. There should be a hitch step included with this so at least you have a convenient way to step into the bed over the open tailgate. I also am not a fan of the lock. It should be the same size as what is in the original tailgate so if you want to swap them out it is possible. It is not, I tried. I would also like a mount for the backup camera to be available, even if it's not included. I'm going to have to make a way to mount the camera myself. Overall, I am not all that impressed with the quality. I think I am going to regret replacing the damaged original tailgate on my F450 Platinum with this.
Description says "strong as steel plastic" but the tailgate can barely take 50lbs resting on it. If all you use your truck for is towing, it's no problem. If you plan on actually using your truck bed, go with another tailgate. A two or three months in, screws began to loosen or fall out. The tailgate had to basically be reinstalled after 6 months. Would be worth the extra price to get an actual steel model.
It's a real time saver not having to mess with a full tailgate when backing up to your fifth wheel trailer.
Good craftsmanship and good looks, but dont stand on it. It probably wouldn't hold up.

After a year this tailgate is still holding up well. I do wish I’d spent the money for the metal version though. Loading heavy boxes in to the back of my truck has become infinitely harder.

I had to return it due to poor manufacturing. The product had several broken pieces not shipping related upon arrival. I would not recommend this product.
Purchased the lift gate almost a year ago, after demolishing the factory one. I am still satisfied with the product. Unfortunately the key lock stopped locking shortly after I installed the lift gate. I would purchase this product again. I assembled and installed the lift gate myself. The instructions were complete and easy to follow.
