Video Transcript for Thule WingBar Evo Crossbars Installation - 2019 Toyota Highlander
Hey everyone, Calman 00:00:01 here at etrailer.com. Today we have a 2019 Toyota Highlander, and we're going to do a test fit of the Thule Wingbar Evo roof rack system. This roof rack system mounts to the flush side rails of your Toyota Highlander. It's going to use the fixed mounting points on the side rails and that's going to allow you to get your favorite rooftop accessories loaded up whether you've got a cargo box, a bike rack, or even a kayak carrier. Up top, we have our 53-inch Wingbar Evo crossbars, and these have a nice aerodynamic shape to them. That's going to help cut down on wind noise and drag, and they're also black in color right now, but they're also available in silver.
Just see etrailer if that's something you're interested in. We have our weatherstripping up top.What's really cool is that we just flip up and open our end cap. We can just slide or T-slot accessories in the channel and tighten them down. We don't have to pull our rubber strip out and then cut it to length for our accessories anymore. Now right here, we have our rapid podium feet that are connecting our crossbar to our fixed mounting point.
This is a plastic lock right here. inaudible 00:01:02. We can replace with actual Thule lock cores. Those are sold separately here at etrailer. That'll provide more security for your roof rack.
Now with this lock right here, you can take any type of flat tool, whether it's a screwdriver or even a coin right now, we just have a flat tool right here. We're just going to use it to unlock it and pull the end cap off, so you can see the inside.Our fit kit is going to be this thick rubber pad right here with the bracket that's custom fit for our Toyota Highlander. We have the bolts connecting the bracket to our podium foot. Now, when we've got everything secure, we just put our end cap back on, and then we can take our tool and tighten the plastic lock. That's just going to make sure our end cap doesn't fly off.
Now, we're going to go over a few measurements for you guys. First, from the top of our roof to the bottom of our wing bar, that's going to be three and a half inches. That's going to be plenty of space to be able to get your clamp-on accessories under your wing bar, without risking damaging your roof.Now, if we go from the top of our roof to the top of our wing bar, it's going to be four and a half inches, which is something to keep in mind that you have that added height to your roof. We're also going to have a weight capacity of 220 pounds with this setup. That's going to be a step up from the previous Aero blade bars. That's going to be able to fit a lot of cargo up here. Now that we've gone over some of those features, let's show you guys how to get this installed. Now, the first thing you need to do is remove the cap on that fixed mounting point, take the included bolt and drop it on the hole. And we'll just thread it on, get it as tight as you can with your fingers. And when we feel some tension, there is an included tool that you can use to tighten down all the way.Now we'll take our pad from our fit kit, drop it over top, making sure that we follow the contours. Example, if you put it this way, it's going to be backwards. Make sure you put it the right way. Now, grab the bracket and put it over top in that middle hole. You're going to want to make sure you get it under those tabs, so you get the bolt all the way through. Then we'll drop a lock washer over and then this spacer nut right here, we'll just begin to thread that on. Then with that same tool, we'll tighten it down all the way.Now all we have to do to assemble our crossbar, is install our podium foot onto our wing bar. We'll just flip this over. We're going to pull the end cap off of our ends and take our podium foot and with the tabs right here, we'll just slide it into the track, put our end cap back on and now we can get it on our roof. When you're getting your cross bars in place, the feet are going to go on the inside of those brackets right there. And then we're going to take our included hardware and feed it through the holes and thread them on. We'll do this for both sides.Now with our included tool, we're going to tighten down both of those bolts on both sides. From there, we can just throw our end cap on and then we'll take our tool and lock it. From there, we're ready to load up our favorite Thule accessories and hit the road. The Thule fit-kit was perfect for my 2015 highlander. The install took about 20 minutes total for the entire rack installation. That's with me working by myself and never having done it before. The included instructions are well written and I had no issues.

Great roof rack. Everything shipped and arrived as expected. The kit had everything I needed to install on my 2017 Highlander with factory side rails. Followed the directions provided and watched the video. Install took about an hour by myself. I have purchased a number of products from etrailer and have never had any complaints or issues.

Installation was simple but if you’re a stickler for a flush, custom, look you may drive yourself nuts with these. After a year they are holding up with no parts falling off like some of the reviews I read when I bought these.
