What is Crossbar Spread for Roof Racks that Fit 2019 Toyota Highlander

Question:

My 2019 Highlander LE Plus does not have flush mounted roof rails. My dealer installed crossbars provide only 28 inch spacing. This short spacing allows too much torq on a long kayak. Bow and stern lines a must. Do you know if I can get dealer to install flush mount rails and use other crossbars to get a great spacing?

The roof racks we offer for the versions of the 2019 Toyota Highlander like the Thule # TH711420, # TH460R, and # THKIT3134 that have just the flush rails also only have a spread of 28 inches between the crossbars. This is due to fact that the flush rails on your vehicle have mounting points built into them which were designed for mounting crossbars and the aftermarket roof rack companies use the same mounting points. So even if you went an aftermarket route you'd have the same spread between the bars so that's not the best way to go.

Bow and stern lines are basically required on all standard kayak carriers like the Yakima JayLow # Y04073 so you shouldn't feel like you are having to complete extra steps based solely on that. If when you are using the straps your kayaks are held securely I'd feel fine recommending you stick with that.
