Video Transcript for Thule ProRide Fat Tire Adapter Kit Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Fat Tire Adapter Kit for Thule ProRide roof bike rack, part number TH5981. This adapter kit enables you to convert your Thule ProRide from a standard road bike or mountain bike configuration to a fat bike configuration for tire sizes up to 5 inches wide. These operate just like the other cradles. They're able to slide back and forth to accommodate different size and the straps themselves are 17 inches long to get around the fat bike tires. This comes in a set of two and it has a limited lifetime warranty. Now that we've gone over some of the features of this lets go ahead and show you how it installs. We already have our front cradle installed.

We'll go to the rear cradle here. The first thing we need to do is remove the end cap by pushing on this button. Once we do that, all we have to do is slide our rear cradle off and install our new one. Now with our new cradle installed, last thing I want to do is put our rubber pad here on, slide it into place and now we can put it on the roof of our vehicle. With our fat bike in place we'll get our cradle situated here, then we'll start tightening down our clamp.

All right, with that tightened down around our frame, now we'll put our wheel straps through and ratchet them into place. We'll do this for the other one as well. All right, now we're ready to hit the road. There you have it for the Fat Tire Adapter Kit for Thule ProRide bike rack, part number TH5981.

  • Best Roof Rack For Hauling Bikes With a 2023 VW Jetta
I recommend the Thule WingBar Evo as the best roof rack for your 2023 Volkswagen Jetta. You will need the Crossbars # TH711420, Feet # TH710501 and Fit Kit # TH145204 to attach this to your roof. These crossbars uses a 2 piece seal for the channel which allows you to easily add and remove accessories without the need to trim a rubber seal. For a bike rack the Thule ProRide XT # TH598004 will secure the bike by the frame. There is no need to remove the front wheel or concern for bikes...

  • Recommended Roof Rack for a 2023 VW Atlas For Carrying Bike Racks
I recommend the Thule WingBar Evo roof rack for your 2023 Volkswagen Atlas. You will need the Crossbars # TH711420 along with the Feet # TH710401 to attach this on your factory raised roof rails. These crossbars have a 2 piece channel seal allowing you to easily slide accessories like a bike rack in the channels. For a bike rack I recommend the Thule ProRide XT Roof Bike Rack # TH598004. This rack is capable of carrying a bike up to 44lbs with 3" wide tires. It secures the bike by clamping...

  • Best Roof Mounted Bike Rack for Bike With Fenders
There is absolutely an option for a roof mounted bike rack that is going to work with your bike that has fenders, as you are correct the HighRoad won't work as it's a wheel-mounted rack. It sounds like you don't want to take the wheel off your bike to use a fork-mounted rack, so what that means is you will need a frame-mounted roof bike rack, for which we have the perfect option: - Thule ProRide XT Roof Bike Rack # TH598004 The ProRide XT uses a clamp arm to grasp your bike by its frame,...

  • Will Fat Bike Adapter TH5981 Fit a Thule Criterium Bike Rack
I can only confirm that Fat Tire Adapter Kit # TH5981 fits the Thule ProRide bike rack 598003. I wish I had better news for you. There are some roof mount bike racks that are designed for fat bike use such: RockyMounts TomaHawk # RKY1222 RockyMounts BrassKuckles # RKY1201-FB Rhino-Rack Hybrid for Fat Bikes # RRRBC050-FB Swagman Race Ready # S64705 I have linked videos below of some of these racks.

  • How To Use a Thule XT Roof Bike Rack with Fat Tire Bike
There are a few different Thule Roof Bike Racks with "XT" in the title so I am not sure if you are referring to Thule Circuit XT, Thule Prologue XT, or Thule ProRide XT part # TH598004. If you have the ProRide XT then you are in luck as you can obtain the Fat Tire Adapter Kit part # TH5981 to carry a bike with tires up to 5" wide. That said, if you have the Circuit XT or Prologue XT there is no way to use either of these with a fat tire bike so your only option is to replace with one like...

  • Will The Thule ProRide XT Roof Bike Rack Fit a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek
Yes, you will not have any issues installing two of the Thule ProRide XT Roof Bike Rack part # TH598004 on your 2019 Subaru Crosstrek with aero crossbars. However, if the bikes are the same then you may need offset the carriers so that one bike is facing forward and the other bike is facing rearward. This will ensure you don't have any issues with the handlebars coming into contact with one another. I looked up both the size of the factory crossbars as well as their spread and they are...
