Video Transcript for Thule Express Surf Strap Stretchable Tie-Down Review

Hi everyone. It's Evangeline here at etrailer. Hi everyone. It's Evangeline And today we'll be taking a look at our Thule Express Surf strap right here at etrailer. So this is gonna be the Express Strap. This is gonna be designed for your surf boards, your paddle boards.

What we have here is a stand up paddle board and what I did, was I have Thule Express Strap, and on the other side, I have the etrailer Cam buckle Strap which is what you are probably used to. So we'll talk about how this strap is used, and what makes it different from some of the other straps you may have. Now one of the major needs this answers is if you have a roof rack that does not have overhang, like this one has an overhang that we can use, but for those that don't have that, this still allows you to tie down your paddle board or your surf board without that overhang. So the main issue that this helps with, is that if you don't have overhang on your roof rack, as you can see, this is on the inside of the rack and you still have all that support, without having to go over to the edge of your roof rack system. The length of the strap itself is 61 inches long, or just a little over 5 feet.

What I did notice though, is we kinda maxed out the length here with our paddle board. So out paddle board is 31 inches wide, right where we have this strapped down. So if you have a paddle board or a surf board that's even wider than that, you may want to consider strapping it up, where it's a little bit more narrow or measuring your paddle board again and see if you need a different type of strap. So the main features here is gonna be, you have this nylon strap. We also have this bungee on the inside, so that can stretch around your board.

You have this plastic buckle in the middle, and then you have the hook on the other end. So all of this works together to secure your strap down to your roof rack system. So, let's take a look at how that works. This is what your strap is gonna look like. You're gonna have this large hoop and then on the other end, you're gonna have this hook, as well as this smaller loop.

So you're gonna take the hook, and the smaller loop and fit it through the larger loop as you go around to your cross bar. Then bring your strap across your board and then go to the other end, and bring it around your cross bar, so pull it as tight as you can get it, in order to fit into that hoop. So you have two loops that you can secure that hook into, and once you have that secured, go ahead and pull on the Cam buckle on top, in order to get all that tension. And just like that, you've strapped down your stand up paddle board. So you can do the same thing on your other cross bar. As you can see what I did with our Cam buckle Strap, was I did the similar thing. I went around the cross bar, over the board, and around the cross bar again. It's a very similar process with your normal Cam buckle Strap, But you have a little bit more tension with the Express Straps. So with this you are gonna get a set of two straps. Just remember that there may be other things you might be interested in Let's say bow and stern straps, depending on what you carry. Also I'm standing on the Moki Doorstep right now, which gives me that height to reach across the board, to tighten everything down. So a personal fact about these Express straps, is that they are certainly different. Are they better than your regular Cam buckle Straps Well I guess that's gonna have to be a personal preference. I do enjoy how easy it is to use the Cam buckle Straps, as well as how versatile these straps are, when used with other items like not a surf board, or not a stand up paddle board. But with our board here, this was a very easy process, as long as you get it into your cross bar over and you have enough width to tighten it down, it works out great. Another benefit of these Express Straps, is that you don't have to worry about your extra straps or your excess straps on you Cam buckles with tightening it down, and making sure they don't fly around. So you have your different pros, you have your different cons, I think whichever strap you have for your boards, they're gonna work out for you as long as you strap things down nicely, and properly. It's just a matter of which ones easier for you. And that was a look right here at our Thule Express Straps, here at etrailer.com My name is Evangeline, and I hope you enjoy the journey..

I've been using the Thule Express Surf Straps for about six months, and I just used them for the first time on a long road trip with great results. I drove over 2,000 miles at 75-85 mph and the straps kept my board secured to the roof of my Suburban without loosening. I couldn't be more happy with how well they perform! Another great Thule product from etrailer.com

These are easy to use, quiet, and they hold the board(s) securely. I’ve carried two boards with mine. My brother regularly carries four boards with his set of Thule straps. Great straps!

Fast and seamless delivery - I was really happy to be able to buy the Thule surf straps on etrailer.com when they were out of stock at other sites.

  • SUP and Surfboard Carrier for 2016 Subaru Forester With Factory Roof Rack
I recommend checking out the Thule Shuttle # TH811XT, which is a confirmed fit for the factory roof rack on your 2016 Subaru Forester and can carry 2 surfboards or SUPs (the SUPs can be a maximum of 34" wide). It is easy to install with clamp-on brackets and comes with multiple tie-down straps to keep your boards in place.

  • Fit of Thule T-Rac Pro2 Truck bed Ladder Rack on 2012 Tacoma Doublecab Shortbed
According to our friends at Thule, the T-rack Pro2 Truck Bed Ladder Rack, # TH37004XT, will fit all models of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma, regardless of bed size. It comes with 4 heavy-duty load stops that can hold your SUPs from moving side to side, but I also recommend adding some pads like the Thule Surf Pad, # TH845000, and straps like part # TH531.

  • Surfboard Carrying Suggestions for 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
The roof racks that will fit your vehicle will depend on the roof of your Grand Cherokee. If your roof has the flush-mounted rails with chrome strips that run along the edges of the roof, I'd recommend a Vortex Aero Crossbar rack from Rhino Rack, which consists of the following parts: Vortex Aero Crossbar in Black, part # RRVA126B-2 or in Silver, part # RRVA126S-2 Leg Kit, part # RRRCL4 Fit Kit, part # RRRCP27-BK You could use the Rhino Rack Surfboard carrier, part # RRRWP03. • Rack Options For Carrying A Paddleboard And Kayak
If you have crossbars on your vehicle we may be able to come up with a solution for you to be able to carry a kayak and a paddleboard at the same time. You will need to determine if you have enough room to hold both items. I recommend the Thule SUP Shuttle Stand-Up Paddleboard Carrier, part # TH811XT. It has a telescoping design that will allow paddle boards up to 34 inches wide. This carrier fits round, square, aero, elliptical and most factory crossbars, and can hold up to 2 paddleboards....

  • Recommended Kayak Carrier for Ford Edge with 21 Inch Crossbar Spread
As you mentioned in your question, most kayak carriers have a standard minimum crossbar spread of 24 inches. With the 21 inch spread on your Ford Edge roof rack, I recommend looking at the Thule Surf Pad # TH845000. These pads feature a split-bottom design that will simply wrap around the crossbars on your roof rack to provide a soft padding for your kayak. You will then be able to load the kayak hull side down/upside down without harming the kayak or crossbars. This will work just fine...

  • Can Wider SUP be on Top of Stack Using Lockrack Adjustable Watersport Carrier
If you load the thinner but longer board on the bottom while using the Lockrack Adjustable XL Watersport Carrier # LR54FR I recommend securing it with straps as well like the Thule Express Surf Strap - Stretchable Tie-Down # TH531. If you don't secure it with a strap then the larger board will have roughly 1" of space on either side and it won't be secured like it needs to be. If you tie it down with straps though you'll be just fine.

  • Is Express Surf Strap Designed to Carry Two Paddleboards
I spoke with my contact at Thule and she said that even though the Express Surf Strap would be long enough to secure two paddleboards stacked one on top of the other, it is not recommended because one board potentially could slide out from on top or beneath the other. We do have several carriers specifically designed to carry two paddleboards stacked. Check out the Yakima SUPDawg, # Y04075. This SUP carrier lets you transport up to 2 stand-up paddleboards on your vehicle's roof. I have...

  • Can Thule Surf Strap Secure a Surfboard to Thule Aeroblade Bar
Usually people use a surf pad like the part # TH845000 with the strap kit part # TH531 that you referenced to secure a board to the roof rack of a vehicle. This would be a great option for your Tiguan that has Thule Aeroblade or the newer WingBar crossbars part # TH711420.

  • Could a Pair of the Darby Turbo-Rack Universal Single-Bar Roof Rack # DTA968 Transport a Portabote
As long as you stay under the weight capacities for the roof of your Ram 2500 yes, the Darby Turbo-Rack Universal Single-Bar Roof Rack # DTA968 that you referenced would work for you to transport your 10 foot portabote. Like you said you would need a pair of these. Since your Portabote folds down a surf board carrier like the Thule Express Surf Strap # TH531 would work well. See attached review video.

  • Is The Thule Wingbar Evo or Edge Better For Carrying a Kayak and Paddle Board on a Lincoln Aviator?
I recommend using the Thule WingBar Evo Crossbars # TH711420 with the Feet # TH710601 and Fit Kit # TH66RV on your Lincoln Aviator. Having the extra length of the bars will help reduce the chances of your kayak hitting your vehicle when loading and unloading. This fits the new Aviator currently 2020-2023. The Thule WingBar Edge Crossbars # TH69FE with the Feet # TH89SC and Fit Kit # TH66RV having the rounded ends would allow for the kayak to slide off the edge of the bar and hit the roof...

  • Can The Inno Locker Watersport Carrier Be Clamped Onto Crossbars?
I have a solution for you but unfortunately there is not an adapter that will allow the Inno Locker Watersport Carrier - Locking - Channel Mount - 1 Boat or 2 Boards # INXA445 to clamp onto crossbars since it utilizes the T-slot, so you will need to go with a different watersport carrier. If your crossbars are no wider than 3" and no taller than 1-1/4" then the Thule Top Deck Rooftop Kayak Carrier System with Tie Downs # TH881 will clamp-on without an issue. Another option that may work...

  • Roof Rack Carriers That Can Be Used For Multiple Watersport Equipment
Unfortunately, the sport carriers do not have interchangeable parts. They are designed for a specific purpose and do not come with any additional parts that would allow you to carry a different item. We do have some carriers that can carry surfboards and kayaks and canoes or paddle boards. They are carriers like part # RRRWP05. These are simply pads that wrap around the crossbars and then you use tie-downs like part # TH531 and # TH855XT to secure the gear to your roof rack and your vehicle. Depending...

  • Recommended Kayak Carrier for 4 Inch Wide Crossbars on 2003 Hummer H2
Most standard kayak carriers, such as the Yakima JayLow Kayak Carrier # Y04073, are designed to mount onto crossbars that are up to 3-1/2 inches wide. There is not a bolt-mounting carrier available that will fit the wider 4 inch bars you have on your 2003 Hummer H2. For this reason, I recommend looking at the Thule Surf Pad # TH845000 along with the Quick Draw Tie-Down Ropes # TH531. These pads will wrap around the 4 inch wide crossbars on your vehicle to provide a soft resting point...

  • Can you Carry Three Kayaks on a 2018 Honda CR-V
The owner's manual for your 2018 Honda CR-V states that the roof load capacity for your vehicle is 165 lbs. This means that weight of the kayaks, roof rack, and carrier must not exceed the above capacity. In addition to weight restraints, you are also going to have the obviously size restriction issue. One of the only options we have to haul three kayaks on the roof of a vehicle is with the Thule Stacker part # TH830. However, it is not a guarantee that you will be able to fit all three...

The WingBar crossbars are aerodynamic with a tapered shape and have integrated WindDiffusers which minimize wind noise so you can drive in peace.
