Can you Carry Three Kayaks on a 2018 Honda CR-V

Question:

Hi, I have crossbars on my 2018 honda crv. We would like to carry usually 2 but could be 3 10 ft kayaks. Also would like something that might work for a 13 ft canoe or SUP instead or in some combination. Our other vehicle when we go on rivers and put one on each end does not have a roof rack so we stick two out the back with the seat down. We had a van prior to crv so they fit easily inside. But dont want them wet in my new vehicle. Maybe the foam block system may work for 2nd car? Are there racks with out ties downs to front and back? that seems easier. thanks,

The owner's manual for your 2018 Honda CR-V states that the roof load capacity for your vehicle is 165 lbs. This means that weight of the kayaks, roof rack, and carrier must not exceed the above capacity. In addition to weight restraints, you are also going to have the obviously size restriction issue.

One of the only options we have to haul three kayaks on the roof of a vehicle is with the Thule Stacker part # TH830. However, it is not a guarantee that you will be able to fit all three kayaks on the roof of your vehicle. This will depend on the length of the crossbars you have and the dimensions of the kayaks you will be carrying. The Stacker does come with ratchet straps and tie downs but it will not be enough to secure three kayaks. You will need to use multiples of part # 753-2030-02, part # 853-5466, and part # e36ZR to secure all three kayaks.

The Thule Stacker is the best option for three kayaks but not for a canoe or SUP. In order to carry a canoe or SUP you would want to look into something like the Thule Surf Pad part # TH845000 for aero and factory crossbars. You are also going to need tie-downs like part # TH531.

Then for the second vehicle with a bare roof, the only option as you mentioned would be with foam blocks like the Rightline Gear Kayak Carrier part # RL100K10 which do come with tie-downs so you would not need to purchase any additional straps.
