An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Great customer service, communication was on point. When I had concerns about the parts not getting to me in time for a big camping trip, the parts was rushed right away. I will forsure order again from trailer.

2021 GMC Canyon

I ordered the Trimbren suspension stop bumps in stead of air bags because of the excellent reviews, easy of installation and cost. They arrived yesterday and I installed them in about an hour. I torqued the u bolts to factory specs and noticed my original number stops had loosened a little so they were not difficult to install outside of cleaning the dirt off prior to reinstalling. After installation I have 1.5 inches of clearance which is what I was hoping for—original ride in my Canyon is unchanged but suspension enhancement will take affect when I load my mid size truck with a 5000 lb travel trailer. Can’t tell more until I load it but I am extremely happy so far. This order delivered on schedule and in great shape—really like the tracking notifications from etrailer. Thank you.

I was pleased that the Trimbren product kept my Canyon level with travel trailer. But even though I was payload legal and my Canyon diesel could handle the trailer from a suspension stand point I never felt comfortable towing. I knew I was close to the payload capacity and on certain road types a rhythmic bounce would occur forcing me to slow well below speed limits. It is true that you can not increase payload limits by adding air bags or Trimbrens they just help level the vehicle. I ended up trading the Canyon for a HD Ram 2500 diesel and changed my world!

Installation on my 2023 GMC Canyon was very simple. 1 5/8 clearance between the frame and new bump stops.

I have the timbren enhancement system on my 2020 canyon. I haul a trailer with Ranger that I pull about 250 miles to hunting camp. It tows great!

2018 Chevrolet Colorado

Purchased these for my 2018 Colorado D-Max. Installed these in about one hour. Needed to move one DEF line at the brake line bracket slightly.

My boat caused the rear to sag quite a bit. After installing these, there is a huge difference in handling and ride height when towing. While it seems a bit harsher, the sag and sway are less noticeable. Since the frame is off these bumpers without a load, the unloaded ride is unchanged except on very bumpy roads.

the product was easy putting on and works great

These helped my suspension for loading my side by side into the back of my truck

Still think it is a great product...but without the bed load, the ride has proved to be a bit uncomfortable in such a light truck. I was on the fence about keeping them on so I removed them temporarily and realized how much of an impact it was on ride quality. They def help with a bed load or a trailering laod. The truck is fine trailering without them but with a 12-58 ton bed load, they certainly were a great help.

Instructions where adequate but could have included the torque specification for the u-bolts.

2019 Chevrolet Colorado

I had made purchases from etrailer in the past and have always been satisfied with the service and products purchased. During this transaction I purchased Tembren bump stops for my 2019 Chevy Colorado. They dont affect the ride of my truck until I put it undet a load. Then they give me better handling of the truck and less weight taken off of my steering. It was quite an easy install, and they work great! I feel the price could have been a little better, however overall I am very satisfied compared to what it would have cost to install air shocks. Thanks etrailer, another satisfied customer!

Since purchasing the bump stops from E Trailer I have been hauling a 5000 lb. Travel trailer for about a year. I am very pleased with the ride of the truck under a load. The Tembren bump stops improved things significantly. Thanks E Trailer! Another purchase made from you and a very satisfied customer.

The product was shipped in an expeditious manner in spite of the mid week holiday.
The instructions indicated less than two hours for installation and it really only took just over one hour. The instructions were spot on as to how to install the product.

Prior to installing the Timbren kit, loading my golf cart caused the truck to squat some three to four inches. Now, the same load causes about a 1 inch lower stance. The loaded truck handles as if there was nothing in the bed.

by:

These really work good for keeping your vehicle level under load, the problem is, they need to be closer to the body when not under a load. Once you get down to them the suspension travel stops. Would feel better if they were taller and had a little more give, more progressive. I have since removed them. Had a set for a 31ft c class E450 and they worked fantastic. Not so much on a light truck.

The Suspension enhancements are still working great. I tow a 5000 lbs RV and there is no lowering of suspension with these. The ride is very stable with no sagging.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement System - Rear Axle Item # TGMRCCA

I installed these on my 2016 Colorado Diesel. The total time it took me was under a half hour on a lift with a jack under the axel. I pull a 5500 lb trailer from CT. to Fl. I won't know how much of an improvement it will make until next week. The tongue is 690lb and I loose about 5 inches when the trailer is connected, hoping this will reduce the sag and improve the ride.

Install was a breeze. I would make one suggestion… don’t reuse your U-bolts after you loosen them. When they are tightened they stretch. I had a shop make new ones for me for $xx and about 15 minutes of my time. As far as the timbrens go… I’ve purchased them before for trucks I’ve had in the past. They work great, that’s why I keep using them on my vehicles. Zero maintenance, just put them in and forget about it. I’ll be buying again for next truck.

Fast delivery. Disappointed with the instructions. Sense the item was ordered vehicle specific. The instructions said tighten bolts to manufactures specifications.

I know it will be lovely when loaded or the trailer on. However,it rides like a wagon empty with brand new premium shocks and struts empty. Thud thud thud. You really cannot feel the shocks or suspension. Found exact same item plentiful for 60 bucks on eBay after I bought these for 250. I may cut these in half or put air bag on. I do not like the ride empty. No hard feelings. It is a good product maybe just not for me.

by:

About a 1/2 inch difference in gap at the bump stop perch but still within parameters. Truck sits perfect with trailer attached. Haven’t towed yet. After towing if they perform like they should will upgrade to a 5 star. Easy to install, definitely needed 2x4 and jack. 2011 Silverado ext cab with 30 ft Genisis 5th wheel.

  • Helper Spring Recommendation for 2020 Chevy Colorado Diesel
It sounds as if you're more concerned with the sag from when you haul things in the truck bed, correct? The right system for you will depend on whether you haul a consistent amount of weight pretty regularly or if that weight varies quite a bit. If the weight is pretty consistent, like hauling a ATV and some camping gear a static system like the Timbren Suspension Enhancement Kit, part # TGMRCCA would be a good choice. The Aeon springs won't come into play until the rear suspension compresses,...

  • If Truck Squats One Inch is 6 Inch Drop Ball Mount Still Needed on 2019 Chevy Colorado
That's an interesting question, and if you are consistently getting the same inch of squat when hooking up your trailer to your 2019 Chevy Colorado, you can take that into account and go with a ball mount with 5 inches of drop instead of 6 inches. For that you will need an adjustable ball mount as there aren't any fixed ball mounts with a 5 inch drop. The best option for this is the B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 5" Drop, 5-1/2" Rise # BWTS10037B. The other option, and what...

  • Suspension Enhancement for Chevy Colorado When Towing a Trailer?
To answer the essence of your question, the answer is a simple no. While suspension enhancements are strongly recommended (necessary in some cases), when it comes down to towing capacity and how it relates to your vehicle, you're always going to be limited by the lowest rated component on your towing setup. If your hitch has a 10000-lb capacity but your truck only has a 7000-lb capacity, you're limited to that 7000-lbs; adding components with a higher capacity doesn't increase the capacity...

  • Will the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System Work with a 4,000 Lb Trailer on a 2016 GMC Canyon
The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System part # TGMRCCA is actually the perfect option to help with the sag on your 2016 GMC Canyon while towing. The 3,600 lb capacity of the enhancements does not need to exceed the total weight of your trailer, just the tongue weight as that is the only part of the trailer that is physically pushing down on the vehicle. Therefore, you will have plenty of capacity using the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System with your 4,000 lb trailer. The Timbren...

  • Recommended Suspension Enhancement for a 2024 GMC Canyon Pulling a Trailer
Personally I wouldn't go with Timbren's for your needs. They're essentially rubber bump stops that prevent your suspension from flexing when weights placed on the rear of your Canyon. The major issue with them is comfortability when you are not towing your trailer. These significantly affect the range of your suspension which can leave you with a stiff rigid feeling in the rear end. Plus if you hit a bump while there's weight on them they tend to bounce. Instead, I recommend the SumoSprings...

  • Replacement Bump Stops for a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado LT with Rough Country 6 Inch Lift Kit
For starters, if you are going to be using your 2016 Chevrolet Colorado LT for towing then the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System would be correct but if you going to be using your 2016 Chevrolet Colorado LT for off roading then I recommend using the Timbren Active Off-Road Bumpstops. The Off-Road system has a softer spring which you will want for hard impacts whereas the SES system has a harder spring that will be better for constant loads. I called Rough Country and the said that...

  • Will The Air Lift Ride Control Air Helper Springs Fit A 2021 Chevrolet Colorado Z71?
The Air Lift Ride Control Air Helper Springs # AL59533 that you mentioned will not fit your 2021 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 unfortunately.. Instead, take a look at the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System # TGMRCCA. These springs will fit your 2021 Chevrolet Colorado with the diesel, and has a load leveling capacity of 3,600-lbs. Additionally, these springs are not designed to increase your vehicles weight carrying capacity, and will install directly onto your vehicle's frame.

  • Recommended Suspension Enhancements for a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado with Diesel Engine
I do have a suspension enhancement system for you but the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-212-40 will not fit a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado or a 2018 GMC Canyon with the diesel engine. The reason for this is because this kit clamps around the frame rail and there are components on the frame rail for the diesel fuel system. Instead, I recommend using the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System part # TGMRCCA which are very similar to the SumoSprings is how they install and function...
