Inno Tire Hold II with bike

The Tire Hold II wheel-mount carrier lets you transport 1 bike on your roof rack crossbars. Upright arms with adjusters can be customized to fit a variety of wheel sizes so that you can quickly and easily load your bike every time. The wheel-mount design lets you carry a bike of almost any size or frame style, and the rack does not contact the frame so it works great for a carbon fiber bike. A sliding lever lock and an integrated cable lock secure the rack to your crossbars and your bike to the rack.

Pivoting, Upright Wheel Arms

Inno Tire Hold II upright arms

This rack has pivoting arms that hold your bike by the wheels so there is no frame contact.

Loading and securing your bike is a simple, 3-step process. First, open the retractable arms and drop the bike into the front arm using Inno's Self-Standing Auto System. This will hold the bike in place and leave you with both hands free to secure the rear wheel.

Use the lever in the base to position the arm over your rear wheel, and then lock the lever to secure both arms over your wheels. This lever also allows you to fold the rear arm down when not in use. The front arm simply folds down and secures to the rear arm with a built-in clip.

Inno Tire Hold II wheel adjusters

Removable adjusters let you customize the arms to the size of your bike wheels. This way, you only have to set the arms once to fit the wheels of your favorite bike. The next time you load that bike, you won't have to make any further adjustments.

Wheel size indicators along the arms help you find the right fit for your wheel, and pins secure the adjusters in place. For 29" wheels, remove the adjusters.

Easy, Tool-Free Installation

Inno Tire Hold II installation diagram

The Tire Hold II clamps easily to most crossbars with no tools required. Simply set the rack on your crossbars, slide the bolts into the open ends of the mounting brackets, and tighten the knobs.

Integrated Cable Lock

Inno Tire Hold II cable lock

A cable lock is included to secure your bike to the rack. The cable has a vinyl coating to prevent it from scratching your bike. To secure your bike to the rack, wrap the cable around the bicycle frame and pass the cable through the loop at the end of the cable lock. Open the locking lever and insert the end of the cable lock into a socket on the side of the lever. Close the locking lever and lock it with the included key.

Inno Tire Hold II sliding lever

The sliding lever that controls the rear wheel arm is also lockable. Simply secure the upright arm over your bike wheel, press the lever closed, and lock it with the key.

So close! This rack is great, with a few caveats...

First, it's almost too small for an XL (21" frame, 29" tires) mountain bike. I had to completely remove the adjustable wheel holder thingy on the rear arm (brace? lever? support?) to be able to properly fit my bike. Not a deal breaker, but not really working as intended, I think.

Second, the front mounting bracket is... middling. It doesn't have a lever like the rear, and so tightness is purely dependent on how hard you can twist the little knob. Also, there's only one in the front, unlike the double setup in the rear. The brackets, themselves, aren't designed particularly well. I'm not sure what crossbars they were using as a baseline, but the angles just don't make sense. (at least to me...what do I know) What I do know, is that they don't grip the factory Outback crossbars very well, and I found myself constantly adjusting and tightening them to where I wouldn't get any sliding left to right on the crossbar. (I did finally get it to where I was satisfied, but it took some doing, and I imagine it would be like that every time if you wanted to take the rack off occasionally.)

TL,DR: Does the rack do what I need it to do? Yes. Is the fitment a bit frustrating? Kinda. Are there other similar options out there? Not many, and none that I could find at this price point. Would I recommend, or buy again? Yes and Yes.

The bike rack worked well until the ratcheting teeth on the track became worn. Now I can't tighten the tire hold levers. I contacted customer service in March, and they said they would contact me when the replacement part came in. It's now November, and I'm still without a working bike rack. Definitely inhibited my mountain biking this summer, which was a huge bummer.

That definitely is a bummer! I can understand the disappointment. I reached out to Inno about it and they will be in contact with you.

Best bike rack avail- and I’ve tried them all. After 5+ years - appearance, durability and safety can’t be beat. 30 years riding- many cars and racks, now satisfied

by:

I reserve 5 in any review I do for disruptive, mind-blowing, revolutionary, etc. This bike rack is not that. But, four stars means that this product is great ...and I am one picking SOB who does A LOT of research before buying anything. In fact, I ended up telling the owner of the local roof rack store (they sell only racks) about these racks. Anyway, they work kind of like a ski boot binding, opens like a clam shell and the bike pops into the rack and locks down tight very easily. No removing any wheels or anything else to do. I had imagined this very design before I found these racks because it's so obviously the best design. Anyway, as you can see from the picture, they hold two very heavy electric mountain bikes on top of the M3 neat as a pin! -- It's kind of the only rack to get. ....you;re welcome ;-)

by:

I know this product because I've owned 2 of these racks for 10+ years on my 2012 Honda Pilot. Love them. Can't wait to get these new ones onto my new Toyota Tundra. I would give the product a 5, but the story and my only complaint below is a 2... so I can't go above 3 overall... as excellent as the product is.

My only complaint is that one of them was not new... the box was previously opened. The staples didn't exist, the manufacturer's box tape had been taped over. I won't know until tomorrow if it's damaged at all... but I will return it if it is. Also, it's a little disappointing etrailer would ship this one and charge me this one as "new"... that's not right

by:

This rack was super easy to install. Makes loading my bike up a breeze also. I have a long gravel drive that is not so smooth and the rack always holds my bike nice and tight. Also, I've hit 90 on the freeway with bike loaded on this thing with no problems at all. Super fast shipping and a great price to boot. How could you go wrong. Get it!

by:

Great rack, solid, looks great. Easy to install. Easy to get bikes on off quickly. Use for a 45 lb ebike. Much easier to use on a car than suv. Don’t have to step into car to load on car but you do on an suv.

by:

We have 2 of these on top of my Mazda5, love them! Very easy to adjust for different bikes, easy to install on the roof rack. Used them daily in the summer to transport kids’ bikes to/from camp, used them to transport bikes for races, and with a trunk rack to transport all 4 of our bikes for vacation! The only thing that could improve it would be a decal or token or something to keep in the car to indicate when you have the rack up with a bike on it. I’ve (slightly) damaged both racks by starting to pull into the garage with a bike on top of the car. Both times (low speed), the bikes were fine, and the racks still function, but have to be held closed with a bungee cord because they’re very slightly out of alignment and the clip no longer lines up to hold them in the closed position.

Issue with clamplock not catching on one rack - may be due to damage from bumping garage. Still usable - everything is still aligned, I just use a couple bungee cords to hold the rack closed when driving yes, its definitely not going anywhere, I just cant lock the support, so I put our cheapest bike there in case someone tried to steal it.

Actually bought two Inno racks! They were easy to assemble and install. Dispute one crooked screw they fit well.
They held my Trek Domane and my friends bike well by holding only tires (frames are carbon). My friend was a bit nervous the first time, but came to accept her bike was safe!
Also held my Gravel and Mountain bikes with ease. Little harder lifting my mountain bike onto the rack! Great racks and can't wait to install them after the winter!!
BTW, I use a small plastic stool due to the height of my Subaru and my 5'7" frame.

Racks work well all cycling season! Looking forward to putting them on again! Lock mechanism on one had my nor issue a few time, but was corrected the second try!

by:

Love this rack... super quick and easy to use and holding up well. I also have the four tray inno rack on our camper van and love that too. Easy to use, well built and holding up well (I take them off for the winter as nothing holds up in New England salt and snow winters). Would definitely but they again and recommend them. Another biking friend got the four tray rack as well and loves it too.

Still love this rack and in great shape. Easy to load, lock, and unload. Nice quality.

by:

When you get tired of always needing another adapter for a fork mount as axle widths and types evolve, or risking crushing your down tube with a clamping rack, get this wheel-hold rack! Fastest to rack up, fastest to switch between 29er, gravel bike, road bike, kids bike, more secure than holding just the front wheel, built in lock, I love this thing! Only caveats are it can be a challenge to lift a heavy mountain bike high enough to maneuver into the rack if you are short and your vehicle is tall (I added a folding step stool to the trunk), and if it rains and then freezes the ratcheting clamp can get clogged with ice. Used it all winter and had this issue once. I'm buying another for the other car, as I can't stand using any other bike trays now that I'm used to the INA389.

by:

Install was simple, had to make adjustments to my cross bars so that the front tire wouldn't rest against my back window. I'm installing this bike rack on Rhino rack crossbars on Retrax xr tonneau cover on my 2018 Ram 2500
I have a specialized stumpjumper 29er with 2.4 width tires and it's tough to get it to ratcheted down I really have to struggle to lock it down. I'm hoping that it gets easier.

by:

Drove across the country with bike mounted to Subaru Forester. Worked great. Worth the extra to have the double wheel holders. The included lock added to peace of mind.

by:

Holds bike steady and easy to install. I forgot to take off the bike while drove into my garage. The rack became misaligned and unable to close the front wheel. This was my fault and was not in warranty. Inno said irreplaceable, so I threw it away.

But overall it's a good bike rack.

by:

Works as advertised.

by:

Like this bike rack better than all the rest. Easy load and unload without and tire removal hassle. And no shaking on car. Very secure.

by:

This is my second inno roof rack and it arrived quickly! Now I have the ability to bring a friend!
Easy to use and just right for hold bikes by tire not frame!

by:

Excellent bike rack. More expensive than others, but it’s justified. Every box is checked with this one. My expectations were exceeded.

by:

Great for 29ers. Very stable and secure. Bought it for my next bike.... eMTB. Will handle the greater weight.

by:

Excellent value for the cost. easy install, very sturdy for our mountain bikes. Only drawback is lifting bikes up onto the roof!

by:

Easy to load and unload - etrailer had great follow and service

by:

Great service! Received what I expected.

by:

This was a great fit for my trek mountain bike,
And was easy to install.

by:

Simple to attach, low noise, easy on/off (hybrid). Secure enough. Remain aware of overall height with these loaded.

  • Recommended 3-Bike Rack Carrier for a 2014 Prius V with Class I Trailer Hitch
I have a solution for you, but the reason that you should only load 2 bikes on the Saris Porter bike rack when using a Class I hitch, is because with 3-4 bikes loaded, even if you are under the tongue weight, there is too much weight that is far from the hitch. This produces more torque on the tongue and can actually bend or twist the Class I hitch. You will want to transport the third bike on the roof of your 2014 Prius V with a roof rack and roof bike rack carrier like the # INA389....
