Features:
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's side and passenger's side. You will have to remove the rear threshold and some interior paneling to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with a 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector. This products fits a 2006-2012 Toyota Rav4. It's going to provide a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. This is compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole, and 7-pole adapters. Adapters are sold separately. It comes with a dust cap for the 4-way flat connector. That way you can always cover up those connection points when the plug is not being used.
The unit also features protective connection terminals to resist corrosion. The black box right here, this is the included tail light converter. This is going to ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer's. The powered module connects directly to the vehicle battery through the wiring. That's going to help avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system. The system is designed to connect quickly and easily.
All you have to do is locate the connections points in the rear cargo area. You're going to have two T-connectors to get plugged in. One goes to the passenger side; the other one goes to the driver's side. The plugs on the harness are custom fit for your vehicle, so they're going to match up perfectly with the ports on the vehicle. They're going to snap-lock together for a nice tight, secure fit. Once you have those connected, you'll need to mount your converter box in an out-of-the-way location.
It's go some holes right here on the side. That way you can run your cable ties through there and get it secured that way. Once you have that secured, you'll need to make a ground connection. Your ground wire is your white wire, has a ring terminal already attached to it. You need to get that grounded to a nice, clean metal surface with the included grounding screw. Then you'll need to run your hot lead to the vehicle battery.
The hot lead is this red wire that comes out of the converter box. It has a butt connector attached to it. This gets connected to one end of the bundle of wire. The other end of the bundle gets ran to the vehicle battery and gets connected to the butt connector here on the fuse holder. The other end of the fuse holder gets connected to the positive post of the vehicle battery. It's got a ring terminal already attached on there for easy installation and connecting. The kit also comes with your 15-amp fuse. It goes directly here in the fuse holder, and it's got the nice cap on there to keep the fuse safe and protected. Once you have that done, you can secure any excess or slack in the wiring that you may have with the included cable ties. Then once your installation is complete, the 4-way connector is going to be stowed beneath the vehicle near the trailer hitch. You can loop it around the safety-chain loop. we recommend using a mounting bracket to keep the connector secure and easily accessible. Mounting brackets are sold separately, but you can find them right here at etrailer.com. It's also recommended that use a small amount of grease on all your electrical connections like the plugs on the vehicle and the 4-pole connector itself. The grease is designed to help prevent corrosion. The grease is provided with the kit. Installation was straight forward and easy. Instructions were understandable. We used [online] videos as a guide for the installtion and did not encounter any major problems.
THE DIRECTIONS WERE VERY SKETCHY AND VAGUE. THE PLUGS ARE ALL BEHIND THE TRIM PANELS AND YOU CANNOT SEE THEM SO IT IS VERY HARD TO CONNECT THEM WITH ONE HAND. I HAD TO GO ON LINE TO FIGURE OUT JUST HOW TO DO IT.
Works as advertised. Simple except the battery run from the back to the front. Would recommend a flexible conduit to cover wire.
My order came quickly. I installed it the day I got it and it works perfectly. This is my second purchase from eTrailer.com. I'll be back!
