Excellent product very well made, excellent customer service from the moment you place your order. Great video and detailed instructions. I am 62 years old and disabled so it took me a while longer to do it myself but that was excepted. I would highly recommend this hitch and buying it from etrailer.

Couldn’t be happier with this it’s done everything I needed it to. Awesome product and I still would highly recommend it.

PITA to install. Wasn’t as easy as the video depicted. Despite the installation it works well.

by:

Install was easy (but I did have access to a lift). Overall happy with the hitch. I got it for mounting a bike rack, which it serves well on my 2021 Jeep Renegade. The only problem is the hitch sits so low (~7.5 inches) that my bike rack hits the ground when driving over medium to large dips in the road or entering/exiting some parking areas. I would recommend going with the factory hitch for this vehicle.

2018 Jeep Renegade

I purchased the Curt C13269 Hitch for my 2018 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk. The build quality of this hitch is great. It is massive. Welds are very good. Fitment on my Trailhawk is much easier than a non-Trailhawk Renegade due to the Trailhawk has all the threaded mounting points and mounting bolts installed, so you don't even need to open the hardware package that comes with the hitch. I did the installation by myself by using a floor jack to lift up back end then used jack stands. I used the floor jack to get the hitch in place and also used paracord on each side of the hitch to get it into position to get bolts started. My only complaint is the condition that the hitch arrived in. The box was pretty much in pieces and the hitch had lots of scratches, and gouges in the paint/powder coating. I would suggest to etrailer to box them better. It is obvious the damage was due to shipping and not manufacturing. For me that really was not a big issue because I had already planned to coat the entire hitch with Rustoleum Pro Undercoating spray - which works very well for preventing rust. After the installation was complete I sprayed all mounting areas and mounting bolts with the undercoating spray to help keep rust from starting. So - all in all, the hitch is excellent, etrailer service was very good, and I'm very happy with the product.

It has been a year since I installed the Curt C13269 Hitch for my 2018 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk. It has worked very well with no problems. I have only used it to attach a Hollywood bike rack for two e-bikes, each of which weighs about 70 lbs. The combination of the Curt C13269 Hitch and Hollywood dual bike rack has been great. I have no worries about it all fallen off the end of my Jeep.

by:

The hitch works grate to pull my utility trailer. Only issues we had was getting it installed properly. The videos online are misleading and it definitely is NOT as easy to install as they show it. It almost has to be wedged into place with a jack. If you are gunna try to D.I.Y. it I would suggest getting a quote to have it installed first and have money ready just in case. Otherwise it works fine on my 2018 jeep renegade sport.

CURT C-13269 HITCH RECEIVER ONTO A 2018 RENEGADE "TRAILHAWK"

First, about etrailer.com.
This is the 5th curt receiver I have purchased from them and installed. They all were shipped very promptly, and arrived in excellent condition. Great people to work with!
The videos you can access from their website are very informative, BUT- both the video and the instructions were somewhat out-of-date for my 2018 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk!
It turns out even easier than the instructions show!

All the Curt products have been very easy to install, they arrive with good instructions, and a complete bolt & hardware kit. I was very impressed with the “Threaded Fish Wires” they include. They greatly simplify the job.

Getting down to the install.
First, the entire bag of hardware can be set aside, fish wires, bolts & nuts, and reinforcing/ lock plates!

2018 Jeep Renegades (at least mine,) come with threaded inserts in all the relevant holes (6) in the bottom and sides of the frame rails!
Mine even came with factory supplied bolts- (Photo#1,)
(Grade 10.9 -14mm x 2.0 thread x45mm long with lock washers) -installed in all the holes! (They require a 21mm or 13/16” socket to remove/re-install.)
(Photos #5 &6)
From there, it’s pretty straightforward. Remove the existing bolts, and per the instruction and/or video, scrape the excess sealer from the bolt-hole areas, and remove the (2) bolts from the muffler support brackets to allow extra clearance during the install. (Photos #2 & 3).
With the help of a jack, and an assistant, push & wiggle the receiver up into place, align the holes and re-install the supplied bolts. I torqued mine to the torque rating mentioned in the instructions.

Then replace the muffler support bolts, and – That’s All, Folks!

NOTE THE THREADED HOLE (S) IN THE FRAME BOTTOM, FORWARD OF THE MUFFLER BRACKETS! (Photo #2)
THESE HAVE PLASTIC PLUGS IN THEM. THEY ARE NOT USED FOR THE HITCH INSTALL!

Photo #9 shows the completed install, still up on the hoist. You can see the receiver is at about the same height as the rear differential, which might give it some protection.
Oh, did I mention! I’m a retired professional mechanic (45 Years) so I have all the tools, and a home shop, with a lift!

Having said that, there is no reason anyone else with a modicum of mechanical know-how, and basic tools, can’t do the job in their own garage or driveway.
Tools used:
½” Dr. Ratchet, 1- 6”, 1- 3” extension, a universal joint adapter, and 21mm or 13/16” sockets for the large bolts, and a 13mm socket for the muffler bracket bolts.
(If you have an Air Compressor and an Impact Wrench, that helps, but not required.)
A Ft./Lb. Torque Wrench. Finishing up, I torqued the bolts to 80 Ft/Lb.
A stubby Phillips screwdriver – used to remove the fasteners in the access panels at the rear of the wheel wells. If the whole fastener turns, use a finger, pliers or other tool to hold it, while unscrewing the center screw.

I used a carton knife and a sharp wood chisel to scrape off the putty/sealer on the frame.
You could use 3/8” ratchet and accessories to remove the large bolts, (they are not real tight,) but you will probably want ½” drive tools to tighten them.

If you’re going to be working on the ground under the car;
PLEASE - USE JACK STANDS TO SAFELY SUPPORT THE VEHICLE!

After over a week that I ordered the Hitch, I called and spoke with Christian to check and ask how long my order would take? He told me it was in the warehouse and would be shipped out the following Monday. I didn't like that answer so I kind of let him know I was abit disappointed I had the Bike and the bike rack attachment for the Hitch but now I can't take the bike out to the beach or a park until I receive and get the hitch and get it installed. I told him I was going to look into another company to see if I can get it sooner if I found one then I would call back and cancel the order with your company. He said he would see what he can do for me and apologize for the inconvenience and gave me his direct number in case if I did to call him and let him know, or to call him directly for anything. The next thing I know is that I received an email the day after informing me that the Hitch was being delivered in a few days instead of another 7 or so days I would of had waited. I was so very Happy! It seemed he was able to get the Hitch I ordered delivered to me much sooner. That's excellent customer service! Now, The Hitch was a bit of a hassle to put on, not as easy as they explained in the video, I ended up paying a [moving company]/ Mechanic to do it for me at his personal auto shop. $xxx.xx tax included. That didn't include putting on the cable wire attachment incase I need to use the hitch to toll an item like a small camper. Thats the only downfall this hitch ordeal came out expensive for a hitch I just wanted to use to just attached a bike rack & bikes onto my vehicle. Other than that I am happy with the quality of the product and works good.

by:

The install went fairly well after I widened the hitch. At first, the hitch was too narrow nd was hitting the frame. After emailing support, I was informed that the hitch sometimes need to be adjusted to fit, as it gets banged around during shipping. Once the hitch was widened, it was easier to lift into place (two people required) and secure the hitch with one of the frame bolts. In my application, I was able to remove the 6 frame bolts (3 on each side) and re-install with the hitch in place. This hitch was installed on a 2021 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk.

by:

The product was as described, and for an aftermarket product, it does its job. Our neighbor who builds race cars installed the hitch receiver for us and could not get the fit we expected. We all were disappointed with the look of the installation and would have liked the hitch to sit closer to the bumper. We would purchase from etrailer again.

2017 Jeep Renegade

Installed on 17' Renegade Trailhawk. The bolts are definitely tough and need a cheater bar to break loose. Used 1/2 drive for everything. Use a 13/16th socket (less sloppy), knuckle, and 10" extension bar to get at the bottom bolts. Have to remove a little bit of caulking on the frame otherwise you fight against it and the hitch won't raise into place. Its great that it doesn't alter anything on the jeep if you want to basically keep it stock like me since I'm currently leasing. The bottom of the hitch is just about the same height as the exhaust so you honestly don't loose very much clearance. Can be installed by yourself. What I did was use a floor jack in the center to raise the hitch up into position and get the bottom bolts started on both sides. Then I moved the jack to one end of the hitch and installed the 2 side bolts finger tight then moved to the other side. After that I torqued the 4 side bolts to spec and finished the bottom 2 bolts last. Took me 2.5 hours because I didn't have a knuckle or long enough extension bar at first and I did not remove the caulking first.

by:

The Curt class 3 hitch is sturdy and mounted with reasonable ease on my Jeep Renegade Trailhawk. This is because the Trailhawk is hitch ready. The hitch does hang lower than expected so it's a little ugly under there and will effect ground clearance more than I had expected.

by:
2017 Jeep Renegade

As every product that I have purchased from etrailer a perfect fit clear and easy to follow instructions. This purchase was a receiver hitch and trailer wiring for my 2017 jeep renegade.

by:
2015 Jeep Renegade

The hitch looks like a good quality hitch, no issues or defects to it out of the box. The installation isn’t necessarily tricky but it will take longer than the instructions say unless you’ve done it before. I wouldn’t say I’m a pro but not a novice, like an amateur, as I used to work as an auto body technician, and it still took me about 1.5 hours. I don’t like how the exhaust comes out right on top of the hitch, and it looks like it sits lower than it really needs to eating into ground clearance.

by:

My Curt’s trailer hitch is awesome and definitely worth my money, easy to install and has been able to do everything I needed it to

by:
Jeep

Installed on a 2017 Jeep Renegade. The instructions say to drill holes in the frame for installation...however, if you remove the bumper cover and collision bar/bumper, you'll gain access to the inside of the rails and will NOT have to drill. The hitch itself has been great! Would recommend!

Received in a timely manner. Husband and his buddy put it on the Jeep. All parts needed were included. Did not have to purchase additional items. Has worked great.

The hitch arrived in a significantly damaged box that had been reinforced somewhere along the way but the hitch itself had only some minor scratches so not a big deal. The problem was the label on hitch indicated a tongue weight of 350 lbs while the specification on the etrailer.com website indicated a 525 lbs tongue weight. I contacted etrailer via email and was told the hitch was recently redesigned and the TW increased from 350 to 525 lbs. This led me to the conclusion that I had the old design or a mislabeled new design. I called etrailer to to try to resolve the confusion leaving several voicemails requesting a call back. Not getting a return call from etrailer I contacted Curt directly and was told the hitch had never been redesigned and the TW was always 525 lbs. The Curt rep asked for the part number on label and it was determined it was incorrect. He sent me replacement label that arrived in a few days. The Curt customer service rep was very helpful. I can’t say the same for the etrailer customer service rep. Not returning a phone call to resolve a simple issue is unacceptable. The hitch itself was fine although the installation was more difficult than that shown in the instructional video but still within the capability of a person with average mechanical ability.

Although there was nothing wrong with the hitch or wiring harness, it took me about eight hours to complete the installation of the hitch (six hours) and wiring harness (two hours).

I would start by saying the pictures in the instructions were of no help. They were dark and very hard to use for comparison to the actual vehicle.

I have a car lift in my garage so getting under the car is easy and I have a transmission lift that helped put the hitch in place.

The biggest issue is increasing the size of the hole for passing through the mounting bolts. Using a step drill and a new grinding bur in my die grinder took at least two hours alone to increase the hole size.

After guiding the wires through the appropriate holes, using the transmission jack to put the hitch in place still took about an hour due to the complications of feeding the wires and maintaining composure of the hitch when lifting into place.

It's a really good thing I had the Jeep on the lift in order to run the wiring from the battery to the rear driver side compartment. Finding a reasonable place to insert the wiring into that compartment was difficult and it would have been good if the instructions could have included a good location. I had to run the power wire all the way back to inside the rear bumper in order to find a reasonable place to run the wire into the compartment where the connection needed to be made.

I have installed many hitches and wiring harnesses over the years on older cars and newer cars, probably eight to ten, and this was by far the most difficult. If you know of any professional shop that's installed this hitch in an hour as posted, I would be incredibly surprised. Two hours for a novice is simply not reasonable and I don't consider myself a novice.

I understand the Trailhawk Renegade has threaded mounting bolts already in place which will make this installation much easier.

Hi Les, Thanks for your feedback! From our experience, this is a more difficult hitch to install than the instructions say. The frame rails on the Renegades are triple layered hardened steel and the bolts are difficult to get to.

Easily installed in 90 minutes and functions as designed todo has the utmost quality engineered into this product have expressed to and shown to others why to purchase this hitch when looking for a hitch to purchase this can be the only one to own.

Was so glad to find a hitch for my 2019 Jeep Renegade. It does sit a bit low, but alternative was way too costly. Great quality product.

by:
2018 Jeep Renegade

Was bent a bit by UPS and did not want to go on very well took me all day to install it 30 mins for a pro I doubt that and an hour for a novice, again I doubt that. but once I got it to go over the frame it went right on.

by:

It’s too bad that Curt didn’t allow for more ground clearance. A small change in the design would give an additional inch.
It didn’t say so in the directions but I found installation easier by bending the “ears” of the muffler brackets out of the way. Torquing to 110 lb ft isn’t easy to do lying on your back under the car so have a pipe cheater handy.

The hitch is fine. I use it to haul a 5’ x 8’ utility trailer to the home improvement store, the dump or whatever.

  • Class II and Class III Curt Hitches for 2018 Jeep Renegade Latitude 4WD
Yes, you can use Curt Class II hitch # C12142 on your 2018 Jeep Renegade Latitude 4WD. The amount of clearance you have between the ground and mobility scooter carrier will be largely dependent on the carrier you choose, I recommend one with a built-in rise if avavailbe. The height of the trailer hitch isn't adjustable and will be the same pretty much no matter which option you go with but I do recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13269. There are many variables here but the distance from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver is around 10.25". It's...
