Easy installation, my dad owns a tire shop with a lift. Installation video was a WONDERFUL help! Fits perfectly, & even looks cool on the Prius! Only took 20 mins to install and complete everything!!! Great product

Amazing, very reliable. Holds up and pulls. For a whole year, this trailer hitch has put in work for all sorts of occasions and necessities. We’re so happy our Prius had this during Hurricane Hilary because it helped pull and haul things out of the mud. The best investment made in the previous year!!!

by:

No problems after 1.5 years. LOVE how easy it was to find the correct fit for my car. O use a 2 bicycle rack with this reciever on a 2017 Prius C. Bought this with a decent rack instead of replacing strap on rack. 2 strap on racks = cost of reciever and rack combined that will last more than twice as long.

We had this hitch installed on our Prius C in order to mount the bike rack. It works great. We paid someone to install it, so I can’t speak to the ease of install, but I can say it took our installer less than 45 min. It’s exactly what we needed.

Its still working great after year!

I watched the installation video carefully to make sure I didn't screw this up. In the video they used a power ratchet, braced the bumper, and dropped the exhaust, all while the car was on a lift. I had none of that but still managed to get the hitch attached. I didn't need to mess with the exhaust thankfully as we were able to wiggle the hitch into place around the tailpipe and bumper cover no problem. We attached one bolt on the driver's side loosely to hold the bumper while getting the passenger side lined up. This is really a two person job with one holding the bumper and hitch while the other gets the bolts into place. There final torque down was tricky due to limited space to move the ratchet handle but it worked and looks great.

2016 Toyota Prius c

Just finished installing this hitch on my 2016 Prius C. The hitch is well made and the finish looks like it should hold up to our New England winters. I chose the 1.25 receiver as I am only going to be using a bike carrier with it. Here's my installation experience. It always looks so easy in the videos doesnt it. Mostly because the car is up on a lift. When you're laying on your back in the driveway its somewhat of a different challenge. Now I have wrenched on enough vehicles to know what I was getting into but I wanted to write my experience with the installation for what, I imagine, will be the case for most people. The install did go as the video shows, for the most part. The video shows the installation on a 2015 Prius C, I own a 2016. There is on my 2016, a second plastic splash panel installed on the driver side. See the picture. It was attached by the same plastic push fasteners as the center one shown in the video. However there is also a plastic nut on a stud at the front of the panel. Second picture. It was only hand tight and I was able to unscrew it easily. Don't make the mistake I did thinking this is attached with a bolt down through the spare tire well, it is not. Just unscrew the nut. Now the fun part. There is one of the plastic push fasteners up the very left side of the panel opposite the left rear wheel well liner. It was clearly installed at the factory, before the well liner and rear bumper cover. Had I been willing to remove those parts, which I wasn't, it would have been very easy to remove this last fastener. I did however, remove the two plastic fasteners that connected the well liner to the bumper cover. I was then able to bend the plastic back just far enough to get my hand up inside to get at the last fasteners holding the panel in place. It finally came free after about 30mins, a great deal of patients and a bunch of choice words. You can see the fastener still in the guard in the last photo. Now with both splash panels removed the installation went according to what is in the video.
Here's a couple things to note. The first; is HAVE A HELPER!!! Trying to hold the hitch up and line up the first bolt by yourself is ZERO fun. Had I had an extra pair of hands this would have been a breeze. Second; beg or borrow a powered ratchet to do this install. I happen to have the exact tool they use in the video. There is so little room to use a hand ratchet on the 4 upper bolts you will be moving the bolt at one or two clicks at a time. Most auto parts stores have tool lend programs. Three; do not ignore the torque recommendation in the instructions. I found that my ft.lb. wrench was too long to be affective, I did mention that I was laying on the ground, so I used a shorter inch pound wrench and did the math to know where to set it. 1ft.lb. = 12in.lbs. Again borrow one of these if you don't own one. So it was 2 hours from start to finish. I hope this will be helpful for those who choose to take this on themselves. Oh, one more tip, when you go to reuse the plastic push fasteners to attach the bumper cover tabs, pick ones that are undamaged, and there is a small plastic plug in the center that you can pull part way out before you push the fastener into the holes. Once you have it in the holes push the center plug back in as far as it will go.

This company is very unique . They match your car with the trailer you want and the web site tells you if it will fit. Then they have videos showing your exact installation. After you place your order they send your their company in house tracking so you know to the minute where it is. If there is any room for improvement I would have liked to have the UPS tracking number so I could track my package after it left the warehouse. But it did come on time as promised and the quality and fit was perfect. I would highly recommend this company for all your trailer part needs.

This is the second CURT product I have purchased from Etrailer.Com. The product is top quality and in both instances the fit was perfect and instructions were flawless. Etrailer is probably the best company I have ever dealt with. The site is easy to navigate and the product descriptions are excellent. Ordering is easy and they keep in touch with you via e mail every step of the way, they even notify you when the package has been delivered and where it was left if you are not home. They provide helpful tips and videos and follow up help whenever needed. Why would anyone do business with anyone else. Oh, by the way, their selection is endless, they will have what you need. Thank you and keep up the great service.

This item was purchased and shipped in a timely manner. Was easy to install on my Prius C. 20 maybe 30 minutes. Use the old holes and easy to install. Due to the Prius, there were tight spots to tighten the bolts but easy. I recommend it. Put a bike rack on it and no issues going at speeds of 65 or 75. Great purchase.

by:

My son and I were able to attach it to our 2012 Prius C (don't laugh) in a couple of hours, without any experience attaching hitch receivers before. So don't be scared to attempt to install it yourself.

Why only four stars? We didn't read the fine print, and you need to use load stabilizer straps (available on etrailer.com) with a non-trailer accessory, like a bike rack. And if you're attaching a hitch receiver to a Prius C, in all likelihood, that's because you want to use a bike rack.

The requirement to use load stabilizer straps is a little bit annoying, to be honest. (They do, in fact, stabilize the load really well, so there's that.) Anyway, if I had to do it again, I would have picked a hitch receiver that did not have this requirement.

by:

This hitch receiver is beautiful and exactly what I needed!

Several people had mentioned that the hitch receiver would not be easy to wrestle into position, so I had a local garage install it. Unfortunately, the bolts that came with it were too short, and my mechanic had to find replacements, but that was the only problem he ran into. That is my reason for giving 4 stars rather than 5; if I had been installing it, I probably would not have figured out that the bolts were too short until I tried to install them, and I would have had to reassemble the car in order to go to the store to get new ones. The garage had what was needed on hand.

Despite this, I'm very pleased with etrailer. I didn't have to guess whether the hitch receiver would fit my car; it did. It arrived quickly, and in good shape. The installed receiver is unobtrusive.

I would definitely recommend this company.

A year later - I really like this hitch. It is discreet you dont notice it unless you are looking for it and functional. I am very pleased.

Works extremely well! Have two bikes and one is a heavier e-bike. The trailer hitch holds both securely with a bike rack fitted on it. Great investment!

Its been over a year and the hitch is working excellently! We just took a 5.5 hour trip to the mountains with two bikes on a rack attached to tge hitch. No problems and all was well after hundreds of miles on the highway and mountains!

1995 Ford Ranger

Rock solid, this is installed on our 1995 Ford Ranger. Installation was straightforward with the instructions provided, just a touch awkward lying under the truck while drilling upwards for the couple of holes that were needed. I sprayed fluid film between all the metal mating surfaces to reduce rusting or rust jacking over time, and put some locktite on the bolts for extra peace of mind.

We don't do heavy towing with this old small truck, but this gives great flexibility and peace of mind that we have a strong solution - I would never want to rely on the bumper hitch, which is too high for smaller trailers anyway.

This also gives a good place to hook chains up for dragging other items around the property, and other shenanigans. I'm sure almost any hitch would meet our basic needs for this truck, but am happy to spend a few extra dollars on a reputable name brand

Delivery was really fast, price was exceptional on this model. Hitch is really solid and I've used it with a 4-bike Yakima bike rack. Works well together.
Installation went okay. Without access to a lift, I fashioned 'risers' or a rear wheel ramp to raise the back end up 2 1/2 inches. That was enough, infact turned out ideal. I was able to use jack stands with shims to support the bumper once it was unbolted. Fortunately the mounting holes on both the bumber mounts and hitch were ovals. It was really difficult to get the upper holes aligned and upper bolts started. I have large hands, and the clearance between the hitch extension and the bumper mount was less than 2". Advise others to start the lowest (most accessable) bolts first. I fashioned an alignment stick out of an oak dowel and inserted in the outside-upper bolts (one on each side). By inserting from the bolt side, rather than the throught the mounting holes ( to the bolt) the threads on the bolts caused the mounting holes to 'center' or align on the bolt. I then inserted/started the bolts in the tight areas. With the lower bolts (not yet tightened) and the outer/upper holes aligned, it was easier to start the difficult-to-access bolts. Those four were then tightened, the alignment pins removed and replaced with the last two bolts.
Note: Makes SURE you use a torque wrench. The surface on which the bumper/hitch is mounted is stamped metal and is not flush (flat) to those surfaces. As the bolts are tightened the surfaces are flexed and drawn together. If you "judged" the tightness, the assembly would NOT be tight. After snugging up with wrenches, I was still able to rotate the bolts an additional 2-3 full turns before the 23# torque release occured.

Came exactly as described. Fit on my 2014 Toyota Prius C nicely. Assembly was fairly simple. Would buy again.

by:

The hitch was a very straightforward install -- had to bend some of the plastic, but the structural parts were perfect.
It has worked very well for the last year -- we carry a bike carrier with an e-bike and a regular bike and it's very stable.

by:
2012 Toyota Prius C

Fairly easy to install just a little difficulty ,as mentioned in previous review, getting the provided bolts started in the existing holes. Difficulty could easily be avoided if the car wasn't so low to the ground as I was working on the car without a lift. The provided bolts could benefit from starter threads on the bolts as the factory bolts had. Overall happy with product very stable and holds hitch bike rack very well.

by:
2014 Toyota Prius c

Where do I start. First please buy bolts that are at least 1/4" longer. They send you out bolts the same length as the stock ones even though you have an extra 1/4" thick steel to deal with. Also you need to unhook the rear exhaust support to get the tow hitch into place. Another issue is there is no way to support the rear bumper as the body is in the way, so make sure and have help. It takes two people to install. In terms of quality, they do a great job. Great welds and a great paint job.

by:
2014 Toyota Prius c

This was a tough install for me. I am a 57 year old woman, Clearance issues underneath the car for the upper bolts are brutal. If you don't brace the bumper properly you will not have a good time. If you don't brace the hitch or have someone help you, you will still not have a good time. On the 13mm socket I had to use both a long and a short length sockets because of clearance issues. I persevered and managed to do this installation by myself in about 2 hrs. The XTC-2-2 was way easier. Only complaint is the holes for the pins are tough to get the pins in and out of. Brutal comes to mind...

I received the package in short order and unwrapped to find a part that should be displayed on the wall. Beautiful! Installation was a breeze. Everything lined up…as hoped, and performed wonderfully. Thanks once “again”, etrailer. I stick with you because, I’m smart (and know a good thing).

I received the hitch two days after I ordered it. I installed it the next day and it was a perfect fit. Could not have worked out better. Could not be more pleased.

Toyota Prius

Put this hitch on our new Prius this weekend to attach our bike rack. Took about an hour, good instructions, everything fit, the hitch was made of heavy gage steel, can't hardly see it, no complaints. They did include longer bolts which was nice and made instillation easy. A lot of kits like this make you reuse the stock bolts which end up being too short which is a pain. But this was one of the easier intalls of anyhting I have ever put on a car.

Good fit on a 2015 Prius C. We've only used it for holding a bike rack, which it does admirably.

  • Installation Of Hitch On 2013 Toyota Prius
The hitch you need for your Toyota Prius depends on the style of Prius you own. I would first recommend checking either with your owner's manual or with your dealership to find what the towing and tongue weight capacity is for your vehicle. For the Prius or Prius Plug-In Hybrid, I would recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch, part # C11276. This is a Class l hitch with a 1-1/4 in receiver. It has a towing capacity of 2000 lbs and a maximum tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs. The installation...

I recommend the Draw-Tite # 24971 over the Curt hitch since it does not have the requirement to use a support strap # 18050 for non-trailer loads like bike carriers the way the Curt hitch does. It offers the very same capacities as the Curt. An installation video is linked for you.

The hitch and bike rack manufacturers all agree that bike racks used in a Class I hitch like the Curt # C11484 should not carry any more than two bicycles (even kid's bikes) even if the rack used has a 4 bike capacity and for good reason. Weight is part of the reason, but leverage is also a huge consideration.
