Recommended Bike Rack and Hitch for a 2014 Toyota Prius C w/ a 55 lbs E-Bike

Question:

I have a 55lb ebike and Im looking to buy a car rack to carry it around. I own a 2014 prius C and dont have a hitch on it at the moment. What would be the most affordable option for getting a car rack for my bike while compensating for the weight? Thanks!

I would be happy to set up your Prius C with a hitch to transport a bike rack. Keeping cost in mind you are going to want to go with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver item # C11484. This hitch is custom fit and bolts directly to your Prius with included hardware. This is a class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver.

For a bike rack that fits a class 1 hitch receiver and has a 55 lbs capacity you are going to want the RockyMounts HighNoon FC Solo Bike Rack # RKY87RR. This bike rack has a 60 lbs capacity. It uses a ratcheting hook on a pivoting upright arm that holds your bike securely by the front wheel, even if it has fenders. This results in no frame contact.

The Saris Freedom Bike Rack for 2 Bikes item # SA4412B you were looking at only has a 35 lbs capacity when used with a class I hitch. If you are wanting to use this bike rack with a 55 lbs bike you will need the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch item # 306-X7194 because of its 2" receiver and higher capacity. This is a more expensive option but it will give you more capacity and choices for accessories.

I looked online and your 2014 Toyota Prius C has a 300 lbs tongue weight capacity so you will have no issues adding a hitch, bike rack, and your 55 lbs e-bike to your car.
