Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Easy install. works good.

It has worked great. And was an easy install.

by:
2006 Ford Explorer

Fairly easy to order the correct one, detailed pictures of both units available for my vehicle helped me decide which one was rite for me.I was able to pick the hitch that had bolts included with it's purchase. After I ordered it a video installing my exact unit was available to watch and also a brief discription of the size wrenches needed ...in my case was a 13mm and a 3)4 wrench.
That's why I gave it five stars

by:

The assembly was hitting on the chain loops for the existing OEM 1-1/4" hitch, making it so that the holes for the horizontal mounting bolts on the new hitch didn't line up. We just welded it securely without those bolts, but others would have either have had to either cut off the chain loops or return the product.

Great product, reasonable price, followed the instructions, easy install by myself. Perfect fit! Very timely delivery, great service by etrailer. Desired 2” hitch for new bike rack for new ebikes.

Perfect. Only took 30 minutes to install. Just followed the video

Great welds and it fit like a glove and installed easily. I had the spare removed to clean it up and that helped me get my fat head up there to see the upper bolt hole alignment.

2010 Ford Explorer

The Ford Explorer from 2006 to 2010 was outfitted with a 1 1/4 inch receiver hitch which limited its towing capacity. This hitch increases towing capacity to 5000 lbs with an increase to 500 lbs tongue weight. One nice thing is you don't have to remove the welded original equipment hitch since this hitch is designed to mount just below the original. The installation is recommended as a two person job, however, I was able to do the installation by myself in the driveway. It is relatively easy if you follow the included instructions. I'm very pleased with the new hitch since I have increased the ability of my car to tow heavier loads for a reasonable price, plus I don't have to buy another car to accomplish that.

After 1 year I am happy with the performance of the hitch. The only thing that is a negative is that I had to remove the plate that held the connector for the trailer lights and the mounting plate offered doesnt work, so the connector just hangs loose. Thats not a big problem since I havent been bothered enough to come up with a fix. Another advantage is you have the smaller hitch to use for your bike rack or some other piece of equipment at the same time you tow with the 2 inch receiver. Nice looking and gets the job done.

2008 Mercury Mountaineer

The Hitch is good and it fits. All parts needed were included (except no good place to relocate the wiring connector). My only real complaint was the wait for etrailer to get around to shipping the order. It went UPS ground (3 business days in my case), but it took them 4 days to ship the thing in the 1st place on an item they showed as "In Stock" when I ordered it. I ordered on a Monday morning & didn't receive until Wednesday night (1 week & 2 days later).

by:

Installed the day it arrived; and simple following of the great instruction sheet. Very good quality!

by:

Excellent hitch package. One-man installation. Directions were clear and easily followed. Pull wires are essential and they worked like a charm! A jack is also helpful to help create room for snug-fit bolts. Very happy with Class Three Hitch and installation. Very happy with etrailer.com and how they followed up with shipping status emails.

by:

Very easy to install. Minimal effort needed fit into location. Fits well on a 2007 Ford explorer 4.6l Eddie Bauer

by:

Quick delivery of product, the 2” hitch was easy to install after watching the video on the web site. Solo installation using a wooden support step and a 4x4 while installing first two bolts.
Suspect it would have been easier with an extra person. Including picture of the stand used to support hitch during the install.

by:
2010 Ford Explorer

Ordering was effortless and was able to get stuff to carry ebike, hitch plus the bike rack plus stuff for the RV all in one order. The hitch went on effortlessly with your addition of the cables to thread the bolts through the frame. Only took us 10 minutes longer than the video said and we didn't have the Explorer on a rack. The hitch went together fine and it is heavy. My wife can load the 75lb bike without me. Hooray!!! Now I just have to install the light and fan in the RV. Thanks etrailer. Great experience so far.

2019 GMC Canyon

Had a mechanic put it own and towed a lite RV 19 trailer from Florida to Alaska and back via the Grand Canyon and Death Valley and had no problems. Did well even in a snow storm in Canada. Worked great.

2006 Mercury Mountaineer

If you're planning on buying this hitch, do it!!! I got it for my 06 Mercury Mountaineer! It is easy to install, my advice... Download the video and follow it, it's better than instructions! Stable, concrete and worth the price. P.S. A lotta people complained about shopping, never had a problem! 7 day or less shopping to my door! So, happy! If you guys worked on your shopping from previous reviews, bravo! I give you another star for that. I will do business with y'all again!!! And I will recommend you to anyone!! Thank you so much!

2010 Ford Transit Connect

Arrived quickly, not to bad to install. Not real happy about the powdercoat chipping off due to hitch sticking thru box and being banged around during transit. It will due what I need and overall good product and pricing

by:

Product was exactly as advertised. It took me just over 1 hour to install. It was a little more difficult to install the top bolts than the video portrayed however I was working at ground level without the benefit of a lift.
I would definitely recommend this hitch receiver. Excellent product!

by:

Steve Z did a super job taking my order. I ordered the Draw-Tite Max-frame hitch for my 2010 explorer at 5 pm on Thursday 8/28 and the item was at my door on Sat. 8/31. The product is in great condition and the shipping was free. I'll update my review after installation.

  • How to Pick Out the Correct Rise/Drop Ball Mount for a 2009 Ford Explorer towing a Camper Trailer
You need to pick out a ball mount for your setup that will allow your trailer to sit as level as possible when towing. In order to determine the correct ball mount rise/drop you will want to check out the FAQ I attached to the right that details this. Having your trailer sit level should help tremendously with any sway or bouncing of the trailer. Since the 2 inch hitch will have a higher capacity I would recommend using it for towing purposes. Suspension enhancements aren't recommended...

  • Can The Draw-Tite Ball Mount, # 36065, Be Turned Over And Used As A Drop On a Mercury Mountaineer
A 1-1/4 inch hitch receiver is either a Class I or Class II hitch. All Class I and Class II can only use the ball mounts that are recommended for that vehicle. For safety reasons, if you have to change the rise or drop from the recommended ball mount, then the manufacturer does not recommend to tow that trailer with the Class I or Class II hitch on your vehicle. We have Class III hitches available for Mercury Mountaineers that will bolt on underneath the OEM 1-1/4 hitch. The Class III...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver For 2008 Ford Explorer
We do not fabricate trailer hitch receivers. We don't have any replacement options for your OEM hitch, but we do have add on hitches that fit directly underneath the OEM hitch to give you the 2 inch receiver. The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75437 and the Curt # 13112 will both fit tightly underneath that OEM hitch and be in line with the bumper. If clearance is an issue, you can use an adjustable ball mount to give you the rise you need...

  • Recommended 2-Inch Trailer Hitch For 2006 Ford Explorer With Factory 1-1/4 Inch Hitch
The trailer hitch I recommend for your 2006 Explorer is the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch, part # 75437. This is a Class lll hitch and it has a 2-inch receiver opening. This will install beneath your factory hitch as it is not a replacement hitch. We do not offer any hitches that are a direct replacement for your factory hitch. I have attached a link to an installation video of the hitch on an Explorer you can check out. If you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in...

  • Class III Trailer Hitch for a 2006 Ford Explorer
Actually, both of the hitches we offer for a 2006 Ford Explorer are designed to mount below a factory hitch with a Class II 1-1/4 inch opening. I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Round Tube Trailer Hitch, item # 75437, because it will do exactly as mentioned above.

  • Recommended Pop-Up Camper Trailer Towing System for 2007 Ford Explorer
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 13112 will fit right under your 1-1/4 inch receiver as you stated. Your vehicle has a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs, so you will be able to tow you the Rockwood Pop-up you referenced. The rear differential is the 3.55. Most will have the 4 flat wiring harness already, so then you will use the # ETBC7L to give you the adapter from the 4-way to the 7-way with power and circuit breaker. Then you can use the Curt Echo # C51180...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Tow Package Components for 2006 Ford Explorer
The Ford Explorer models changed after 2001 for the 4 door and 2003 for the 2 door models. For your 2006 Explorer, I recommend using the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75437 which is designed to fit under the factory 1-1/4 inch receiver. You likely already have the 4 way trailer connector, so if you want to upgrade to the 7-way I recommend the # ETBC7 kit along with a brake controller like # 90195 if you have a trailer with electric brakes. This will give you the wiring,...

Yes, since your 2006 Ford Explorer has a 2 inch hitch like the Draw Tite hitch part # 75437 installed on it the Yakima RidgeBack 4 Bike Rack part # Y02458 will work for you. • Class III Hitch Recommendation for a 2007 Ford Explorer
I have a solution for you. You would want the Draw-Tite part # 75437. This is a Class III 2 inch hitch specifically designed to fit your 2007 Ford Explorer with a factory hitch. You will need to retain your factory hitch to install this hitch. It will fit below your factory hitch. For ball mounts I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a carrying bag.

  • Why Do Trailer Hitches for 2006 Ford Explorer Require Leaving on Factory Hitch
For your 2006 Ford Explorer the hitches we offer for your vehicle all require the factory hitch to be left on. The reason is that your factory hitch is part of the rear bumper so it has to remain installed. The Draw Tite hitch part # 75437 would fit your Explorer well and would be a great option.

  • Towing Capacity for Trailer Hitch and for 2007 Mercury Mountaineer
I did some checking and it looks like your 2007 Mercury Mountaineer has a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. You would need to check your owners manual or with Mercury to verify this based on how the vehicle is equipped. We have hitches like the Draw Tite part # 75437 which has a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs and 500 lbs tongue weight when not used with a WD system and 8,000 lbs and 800 lbs when used with a WD system. The overall towing capacity for a vehicle is always the lowest rated component....

The No-Rattle Trailer Hitch Wedge, part # MPG908 will likely reduce buy not eliminate the movement you are experiencing. Keep in mind that using the adapter will lower the tongue weight capacity of your factory hitch by 50%. If the tongue weight capacity of your hitch is 350 lbs, using the adapter will lower it to 175 lbs. This means that the hitch will only be able to withstand 175 lbs of downward force. My best recommendation for maximum safety would be to install an aftermarket hitch...

  • Why Do Hitches have Higher Ratings when Used with Weight Distribution Systems
Weight distribution systems are designed to help distribute the tongue weight of the trailer to the front axle of the tow vehicle, in doing so they also can increase the towing capacity of a vehicle. Weight distribution systems require a 2 inch or larger hitch size. There isn't a way to use a WD system on a 1-1/4 inch hitch so you'd have to install a 2 inch hitch on your 2006 Ford Explorer like the # 75437. You will be towing a trailer heavy enough to benefit from a WD system since the trailer weighs more than half of the total vehicle weight. The kit I recommend is the part # RP66082 which has a tongue weight range of 200 to 600 lbs and features only sway control that works to fight...

In many cases a bad ground is to blame for this type of issue, but in order to determine the specific problem you'll need to use a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 to test the connector on your Explorer after disconnecting it from your trailer. Check the wiring going into your harness from your taillights to see if those wires are carrying the correct signals, if not then the issue is with the vehicle wiring. If the signals going to your harness are okay, you'll need to test the signals...
