Why Vehicle Wiring Harness, # C55255, Is Not Working In A 2002 Ford Escape

Question:

I have purchased and installed this wiring harness part #C55255 on my 2002 Escape. It plugged in easy to the manufactured installed plug behind the driverside rear panel. When I plug my trailer lights into my vehicle the tail/running lights work on the trailer BUT the stop/turn lights do not. I was told there may be an additional fuse or relay that I need to install before all the lights will work. Is this true? and/or does this mean my vehicle did not have the tow package but still had the plug behind the panel? I do not want to have to buy the other wiring harness part #C55343 if I dont have to.

On your 2002 Ford Escape you do not need the additional relay. That is only for the 2008 and newer Ford Escape.

It sounds like you have the port, but do not have the tow package. Unplug the Vehicle Wiring Harness, # C55255, from your port on the vehicle and with a Circuit Tester Kit # PTW2993 check the vehicles port to see if you are getting current to all the pins in the port.

If you have current to all the pins then the Vehicle Wiring Harness, # C55255, would be the problem.

If you do not have current to all the pins then you do not have the tow package and will need to use the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # C55343, which will plug into behind the taillights on both the drivers and passenger side. There is no cutting or splicing.

I am sending a link to the instructions on the wiring kit # C55343 and I will also send a video link that shows that same wiring kit being installed on a 2003 Ford Escape.
