Parts Needed To Add Tow Wiring to 2003 Ford Escape
Question:
Is there a product, such as a possible converter, which would allow me to make my 2003 Ford Escape, 3.0L, 6 cylinder, 2 WD to a tow ready vehiclepermanent. I read, there are some Escape that came with the tow package, mines did not, but Im hoping I can turn it into tow ready wiring capacity. Whereas everytime I tow something I dont have to connect/reconnect wiring. A simple plug in and complete the jobtow. Is there a permanent converter or adapter that will allow me to make the lEscape WIRING TOW READY. I noticed your hitches and mounting, balls etc. but 1st wiring??

To add a wiring harness and trailer connector to your 2003 Ford Escape you will want to start with the Tow Ready T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118343. This wiring harness will plug into your vehicle's existing wiring behind the driver and passenger side tail lights. The wiring harness will not interfere with your vehicle's wiring and will not need to be removed. Once installed, this wiring harness will provide you with a 4-way flat trailer connector at the rear of your vehicle. I have attached an installation video of the # 118343 wiring harness for you.
If you also want a 7-way blade-style trailer connector, you will want to install an #ETBC7 kit. This kit will allow your to have the necessary wiring to install a brake controller on your Escape. The # ETBC7 kit includes a trailer connector that allows you to use either a 7-way trailer connector or 4-way flat connector. You will not need to remove this wiring kit, it is designed to remain on your vehicle.
If you need a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885. I have attached help articles on installing the # ETBC7 kit and installing a brake controller from scratch.
The trailer hitch I recommend for your 2003 Escape is the Draw-Tite Class III Round Tube Receiver Hitch # 75118. I have attached an installation video of this hitch on a 2002 Escape for you.
