For the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit # 119250KIT should not be installed tapping into another power supply like a cigarette lighter. The power draw needs to be directly from the battery to ensure you don't have a power issue from a fuse or other component that isn't designed for that use. Having power to your trailer wiring even when stored is not an issue and you don't want to keep turning power on and off to a controller... view full answer...
Yes if your hitch is not rated for weight distribution systems that does mean that it should not be used with weight distribution. This limitation is usually seen when the vehicle uses unibody construction instead of a conventional frame. A weight distribution system applies a great deal of leverage and torque to the vehicle frame (much more than what would be applied in a normal towing situation), and it is the opinion of the hitch manufacturers that the structures on the underside of... view full answer...
I have linked the instructions for Curt trailer hitch # C13102 for your 2008 Mercedes GL450. The first 2 steps involve lowering the exhaust. It is actually easy. You just have to remove the metal muffler hangers from the rubber hangers (4 total). On some models you would also have to remove the exhaust tips to lower the exhaust. There are screws holding on the tips that would have to be removed in order to slide off the exhaust tips. I have linked the instructions to the right.

The issue you are experiencing is very common on German vehicle such as Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen. The problem is that there is not enough load on the system to allow for the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller part # TK94FR to work properly. However, the load issue is usually fixed by using part # 20142. view full answer...
The power wire of the # 119250KIT would not be rated high enough to carry enough amperage for both the # 119250KIT and the Echo part # C51180. So what you'd want to do is run the wire that comes with the # ETBC7L along the same routing to get the the vehicle battery and you'd be set. This also prevents a short in the trailer wiring from potentially shorting out the brake controller and damaging it since they will be on separate circuits. Having two 12 volt wires ran to your battery would... view full answer...
The instructions for the Curt Class III Receiver Hitch # C13190 are attached. Curt provides photos of the installation process in their instructions for you.
For installation, you will want to temporarily remove the bumper fascia and lower the vehicle exhaust. You will also want to trim the heat shield.
This hitch does not require any drilling or welding for installation.
The Curt # C13190 is confirmed to fit the 2014 Mercedes GL550. view full answer...
If your 2007 Mercedes-Benz GL450 has a brake controller connector under the dash you likely need to get the adapter from Mercedes; unfortunately, that's not a part we carry. Then you need to install the Prodigy P2, part # 90885, by wiring it to the adapter you plugged in. On brake controllers the wiring is color specific:
Blue - Brake output
Black - 12-volt power
White - Ground
Red - Stop light switch
You can test that green connector using a circuit tester, like part # PTW2993, if... view full answer...
No you will want to have that 12V wire connected directly to your battery using the provided fuse holder. It can be tempting to use a fuse panel from time to time but for the safety of your vehicles wiring system and to ensure that your ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 119250KIT will work properly you need to get to that battery. view full answer...
Having the 4-way run out of the back hatch is actually the preferred method although it seems like it wouldn't be. Having the 4-way stored inside the cab of the keeps it protected from rain and moisture to prevent corrosion and keeps it protected from damage to the wiring or connector by rocks or debris that might be on the highway.
You can run the wire through the vehicle if you wish but just keep in mind that this does take more time and you may end up needing additional wire because... view full answer...
There should be enough free play in the shackles to allow them to move.
There is no specific torque rating for shackle bolts. The first thing you should make sure of is that the bolts you use are long enough so that when installed you will have at least 2 threads protruding from the nut.
Next, make sure that the nut you are using is a locking nut, so that it cannot work loose and fall off.
If the bolt you are using has knurls at the bolt head you will want to tighten the bolt down until... view full answer...
In order to install the Curt # C13190 some trimming will be required in addition to the bolt-on installation. A section of the heat shield will need to be trimmed that is approximately 11" x 6" and also the outboard tabs on each side of the vehicle will need to be removed.
I have attached a picture from the instructions showing what needs to be trimmed as well as the instructions themselves. It is also worth noting that this hitch will not fit models that have the Active Curve system. view full answer...
I contacted our representative at CURT about installing the CURT Trailer Hitch # C13102, on your 2011 Mercedes-Benz GL450. He informed me that there should be no trimming required to install the hitch even with plastic fascia.
I have attached a picture of the hitch installed on a model with the decorative aluminum fascia. You will want to compare the fascia to see if it is the same size and shape.
However, if the exhaust heat shields are coming in contact with the hitch, the heat shields... view full answer...
On your 2009 Mercedes Benz GL450 there is a brake controller install port, but it is actually at the rear of the vehicle near the rear SAM. I attached a picture that shows the connector and the color codes for the wires of the connector.
We have found that it's just easier to hardwire the controller in vehicles like yours since the connections for the controller aren't convenient. But if you wanted, you could still use the connector.
I attached a help article on hardwiring brake controllers... view full answer...
Since you have a Thule cargo box with channels the easiest way to know if the Quick Grip Mount part # TH05738 is going to fit is if you check out where it installs and if in that area you basically see a replacement cradle part # TH8523387001. If you have something that looks different send me a picture or let me know the model of cargo box you have and I'll be able to set you up with the correct hardware. view full answer...
Basically every attachment point on the Curt Hitch part # C13173 is designed to help secure it to the vehicle. The rear section of the hitch that actually mounts closest to the front of the vehicle is designed to provide additional support and strength to the hitch setup. Even though the sub-frame has rubber bushings where it attaches the hitch is still supported by attaching to that section of the vehicle. It wouldn't move or twist as the other brackets of the hitch will keep it secured... view full answer...
For the Prodigy RF brake controller part # TK94FR to function it needs to be plugged into a 7-way that has a working 12 volt power circuit and working stop turn circuits. These pins are 3:00 position for the right turn and 9:00 for left turn.
Sounds like your 12 volt power circuit isn't active which is pretty easy to do. You just need to run a 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 (sold by the foot) through a circuit breaker like part # 9510 to the positive post of the battery from the pin... view full answer...
When considering using the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit # 119250KIT with your auxiliary battery on your 2014 GL450, it will work if that battery is a 12-volt battery. We actually did an install with the wiring harness on a 2017 BMW X5 that has a similar type of battery that is located in the rear cargo area. I went ahead and linked the video of that installation. The wiring to the battery occurs at timestamp 10:28.
However,... view full answer...
If you look at the linked instructions for the Prodigy RF # TK94FR you will see that there is nothing prohibiting installation perpendicular to the tongue. But ideally it would be parallel with the frame and level + or - 5 degrees. view full answer...
I have a solution for you, but unfortunately there are no plug-n-play style wiring adapters available for your 2015 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, and it is usually fairly difficult to hardwire in a brake controller because you have to locate the stop light switch.
What I recommend using is the Curt Echo # C51180. This is the best option for your Mercedes-Benz because it plugs right into the 7-Way wiring harness on your Mercedes-Benz. The Echo will activate your trailer's brakes in proportion... view full answer...
We don't carry an A-frame trailer jack that has a rotating head. However, the head can be installed in which over orientation the bolt holes on your trailer allow. And if you needed you could always drill new holes so the head faces the exact direction you'd like it to.
We do have the Ultra-Fab Jack # UF38-944037 that has a few options for different bolt hole spacing.
Another solution that may work for you is a longer ball mount like # BH20. This will put the jack further away from... view full answer...
