The first thing I would do is to check the ground wire. Make sure the ground wire is connected and a good ground (attached to bare metal, clean of paint). To troubleshoot the system, I recommend using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993.
Disconnect the connectors at the tailgate and test the pins coming from the front of the truck while someone uses the locks in the truck cab. If you are getting current there is something on the tailgate side of the connector. Reconnect the system and test the wires on the tailgate lock side of the connectors. He informed me that there is no difference in the wiring, and if splicing an adapter like # 3035-P into the unit, it should connect color for color, like what you mentioned doing.

First we will want to determine if there is a short in the Pigtail # C51322 for the Curt Venturer # C74VV which is causing the brake lights to be activated on your 2002 Ford F-150. When all functions work except for one with your trailer lights, you start at that location. So at the rear tail light, you will first want to check the light bulb for that function. Next you will use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to see if there is signal at that location. I emailed Alpena to get some clarification on their Alpena Trailblaze Tailgate LED Lights, part # ALP77229. I was told that the placement of the LED lights will not block or interfere with the BLIS sensors. The issue might be that the LED lights do not draw enough power and it is confusing the computer on your 2015 Ford F-150. If you accessories plug into a 4-Way then you could use adapter # C35FR which has built in load resistors to add more load to the system so it won't confuse the computer.
