Troubleshooting Tekonsha Commander Brake Controller Not Powering On
Question:
have 2007 F150. Have a tekonsha commander electric trailer brake. I spliced the connector to a 3035-P adapter for F150. Black to black, red to red, white to white and blue to blue. Plug into dash and no power? What might be wrong? Thanks

Since the Tekonsha Commander is an older model trailer brake controller, I spoke with my contact there just to ensure that the wires used on the unit are standard as it relates to their colors. He informed me that there is no difference in the wiring, and if splicing an adapter like # 3035-P into the unit, it should connect color for color, like what you mentioned doing.
Since the wiring matches up, it's possible that the controller itself has simply gone bad and is in need of a replacement. The fact that it does not power up at all leads me to believe that this is the most likely cause. You can also check to make sure the pins have not been bent on the port in your truck and simply ensure that all of your wire connections are physically sound.
If you find that you need a replacement controller, I highly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 along with the adapter # 3035-P that you already have. This is an excellent proportional controller that will activate the trailer brakes at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your F-150. It features an easy-to-read digital display and continuous diagnostics that will alert you to potential issues. I have included the installation details for you to check out.
