An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

1995 Dodge Ram Pickup

These are fantastic and I would highly recommend them. I placed these on my 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins after I put my slide in camper on. It eliminated almost all of the body roll and tightened the suspension up progressively . Very good product and easy to install.

by:
1996 Dodge Ram Pickup

Installed on a 1996 Ram 2500 and it helped tremendously towing my dump trailer. The truck is a little more bouncy unloaded now but I do not mind.

I am still very pleased with the product! I tow 5 ton of stone in my dump trailer and it dramatically reduced, sway and squat in the truck. I recommend these over the air ride version because I did not want to cut my fender liner for those.

by:

I'll admit I was a bit skeptical at first at how well these would work, but I wanted my truck to ride a bit more level when loaded. I am a firm believer in simpler is better, and the Timbren system seemed pretty simple. Installation was a breeze, the hardest part was unbolting the factory bump stops to add the Timbrens, as age had rusted the bolts a bit. Once I got the old bump stops out, installation was simple and straightforward, taking maybe 45 minutes total using only hand tools. You have a choice to use the Timbrens alone, or to add little spacers behind them, for greater load assistance. I chose not to use them because I rarely load my truck to the max; I only wanted a little help with the occasional heavy load and didn't want to sacrifice ride quality.
I would say 90% of the time, I am unaware they are even there, except that the truck rides much more level with a heavy load, and with less 'sway' on uneven roads. Empty ride is unaffected, fully loaded ride feels the same, just with less rear end squat. Partial loads give a slightly firmer ride, enough to notice but without being objectionable.
Easy installation, zero problems/issues after a year, and almost no effect in ride quality. Factor in easy installation and a reasonable price, and I give a 5 star rating. Fully satisfied for the price.

by:

Highly recommend for anyone towing. Leaf springs were flattened out prior to install. Swapped the bump stops out for Timbrens in a campground before making a 1000+ mile trip home. They work amazing leveled the truck out while towing and absorb the bad bumps.

I would absolutely buy the Timbren SES again if I didn’t already have them. No issues after a year.

by:

These work perfectly for my multiple trucks and trailer with loads. A bit stiff if hitting bumps such as going over speed bumps or onto/off of uneven bridges with uneven surface but all in all work as they should.

I bought these to help improve he ride of my tow vehicle 02 ram 2500 4x4 while towing my fifth wheel. They had the exact opposite effect. Took all he suspension travel out of rear of he truck when I hooked up. Had on for less than 1 trip. Took off at the campground. Would not buy again. Can not recommend.

The Timbren Aeon springs work best on vehicle suspensions that are in good repair. If the shocks or leaf springs on the vehicle are worn, the springs wont perform as designed.

by:
2000 Dodge Ram Pickup

As always, etrailer processed and shipped my order expeditiously and it arrived in great shape. Upon installation, I thought that I may have ordered the incorrect size, but a quick chat with the Timbren rep and some more careful measuring allayed those fears. With an empty bed, the Timbrens are not engaged and allow the stock suspension to operate as designed. With the camper loaded, the Timbrens are preloaded and prevent the rear of the truck from sagging and significantly reduced the feeling of a light front end. Truck drives better and maintains a good level stance. While air bags may be better at tuning how level, the Timbrens are less expensive and don't require the plumbing and compressed air. Simple and effective.

by:
1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I’ve had the Timbren suspension enhancement system for a year now on my ‘99 Dodge 1500 4x4. I purchased this product because I had to tow my bumper pull three horse trailer from South Carolina to N. Central Montana. With a camper top, the bed loaded and the trailer loaded the truck sagged really bad. With the Timbrens on the sag went away completely. Making for a much safer less stressful experience while towing.

by:
2008 Dodge Ram Pickup

These make excellent additions to any truck that plans on towing a travel trailer or heavy boat. I have a fairly light travel trailer (4500 lbs) but all the additional gear and water, propane, etc adds up quick. Before I installed these on my 2008 Dodge Ram I was not very comfortable towing everything, especially up a steep hill. I could feel a lot of play in the steering wheel from rear sagging so much. I installed these before my next trip and it took me about 30 minutes. There were existing rubber springs but not nearly as long. I was able to reuse the nuts from these so I did saved myself from threading the new ones through the frame. If you are on the fence because of the price, do not hesitate to get these.

by:
1995 Dodge Ram Pickup

Installed very quickly on a 95 Dodge Ram 2500. Our truck has a dump insert so it is easy to make the truck squat. With the Timbren kit the truck is 1-3/4" inches higher with a full load.

by:
2001 Dodge Ram Pickup

Im amazed the first time in a long time a product I ordered worked exactly like it said it would, all parts there, easy to install. What a great buy.

by:
2006 Dodge Ram Pickup

Installation would have been a snap, had I not had to deal with rusted bolts on a 12 year old Dodge Ram1500! For those who are thinking of installing these on older vehicles, get CRC Freeze-Off. It helped with 3 of the 4 bumpstop bolt...because of impatience, I broke one off. I tried drilling out the broken bolt, but it was getting dark and I wanted to be done. So, I just broke out the welder and put a couple of beads on it! I have yet to take it on the road loaded with the ATV while pulling a camper but I am sure it will work well. I bought this because I saw reviews and pictures of those who installed it to eliminate squat on their 1500's while pulling a 5th wheel. My application will be a lot less! Great stuff Etrailer!

Product fit as advertised and Etrailer again was a pleasure to do business with!

2007 Dodge Ram Pickup

Took my 2007 Dodge Ram to a local shop to have Timbrens installed. I watched the sales man look up the price on his monitor. He then quoted me an installation charge of over $150, so I called etrailer and asked how hard they were to install myself. They walked me through installation and shipped the product to my door. Installation was so easy that I didn't even finish my second beer. Thanks etrailer for saving me over $150.

by:

This is much easier than dealing with air bags that need inflating/deflating. Great product.

by:

VERY easy to install. Just remove the old axle stops and screw these in. I had air springs in my old tow vehicle and they were a pain. These are the way to go if you are looking for suspension support.

2007 Dodge Ram Pickup

The Timbren rear ES work great. They do not effect the ride of the vehicle until the vehicle is loaded. It took me 20 minutes to install on my 2007 Dodge Ram 1500. Etrailer shipped fast A+ company.

Timbren Suspension EnhancementProduct was exactly as it was described. Arrived to me on time. Was very easy to install only took about 15 minutes to install them. Bought a new 7 by 16 trailer to tow with my Dodge Ram 1500. Improved the ride and got rid of the rough bouncing that uneven roads produce. Would recommend to anyone who hauls things with there truck on a regular basis.

Greatly improved ride and sway with slide in camper.

  • Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 with 5th Wheel Rail Kit
We have suspension enhancement kits that fit your 1999 Dodge Ram that can be used with the rail kit you have installed but none of the air bag kits can work with it. Instead a Timbren setup like # TDR1525H4 would be your best option as you'll get the support you are looking that's compatible with the in-bed rail kit you have.

  • 2007 Dodge Ram Quad Cab Sags When Towing a Trailer
Yes, installing Timbren suspension enhancement springs # TDR1525H4 will prevent the sag at the back of your 2007 Dodge Ram. However it is not the best solution for sag caused by towing a trailer. The best solution for that is weight distribution. Suspension enhancement is best for loads carried in the truck bed. For weight distribution I would need to know the tongue weight of the trailer when loaded and ready to tow plus the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the truck....

We do not offer an air bag helper spring system that will work with your gooseneck hitch installed on your 1999 Dodge Ram pickup truck but I do have a solution for you. If you have a 2WD truck I recommend the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, part # TDR1525H2. This replaces the bump stop on your truck and helps when carrying a heavy load. This system does not affect the empty ride of your Ram. This is designed to work with a suspension system that is in good working order and...

These air bags fit both the 2WD and 4WD 2001 Ram 2500's. This system offers 4,800 lbs in load leveling support. If you are using an in bed hitch your options are limited. • Rear Suspension Enhancement System for a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Carrying a Truck Bed Camper
When looking into rear suspension enhancement systems, one factor that you will want to consider is the type of load that you want to support. If your load will be a consistent size and weight, such as a pickup camper or trailer, then the Timbren springs are an excellent option. If you frequently haul loads that vary in size and weight, then the air bag suspension systems would be more ideal because they can adjust to different load sizes. • Recommended Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System for a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab
For the rear of your 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 two wheel drive quad cab, the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TDR1525H4 would be correct for you. However, if you have the mega cab model then you would want part # TDR2500CA. Both the mega cab and quad cab models have 4 doors but the mega cab model has about 12" of extra cab space behind the rear doors whereas the quad cab models do not have the added space.

The B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck trailer hitch you have on your 2001 Dodge Ram pickup has mounting brackets installed on the outsides of the frame rails. So the Firestone Ride-Helper springs # F2071 won't fit because it mounts on the side of the frame rails too. For a standard height 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 and 2500 series, I recommend the Timbren suspension # TDR1525H4 as it will mount underneath the bed frame rail and won't interfere with your B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck trailer...

  • Timbren Suspension Enhancement System for 2007 Ram 1500 To Reduce Rear Sag
Timbren jounce springs are a great option for your 2007 Ram 1500 with a little rear sag when towing. They are designed to give additional support by becoming more rigid as more weight is added. This means the empty ride of the vehicle shouldn't be impacted but the ride under load will reduce sag, increase stability and reduce body roll. If you have a mega cab model you will want # TDR2500CA designed specifically for that model. If you have any other model, then you instead will use...

If you have a 4x4 with standard height (no factory or aftermarket lift) I recommend # TDR1525H4 which will fit a 1500 or 2500 but not a 3500.
